Messed up when copying kanji from the board = trouble

I was going to look up a bunch of kanji compounds I had written down in class last week, but something tells me I made a mistake when copying one of them.

I simply can't find the second character anywhere. I'm not really sure which radical I messed up, either. Does anyone happen to know what this kanji compound was supposed to be if written correctly? Thanks in advance.

It looks like 「放棄」（ほうき）, meaning "to abandon."

Well it took a bit of doing but it seems to be
放棄
not, as I originally thought it looked like,
放葉

[EDIT] Ooops, look like I was beaten to the 'post' button.
and now I get to add
放棄 【ほうき】 (n,vs) abandonment; renunciation; abdication (responsibility, right); (P)
to my revision list.

I'm pretty sure it has to be 放棄. Thanks a lot, guys.

By the way, perhaps I'll have amassed enough wisdom one day to figure out what Inuyasha-the-kid is trying to say. Here's hoping.

The mistake that you made in the pic is that you added a stroke to the "buckle" part, i.e. the bundle in the middle that looks similar to 世. It should be five strokes, with three vertical strokes, not four.
