HI!
I'm coming to Japan next week. I wish to bring with me some medications, like aspirins... you know, usual medications. Is it allowed this?
And I have a 2nd question: can I bring my music cd too?

I brought aspirin with me when I came, but there are pharmacies here, I don't see the need to bring something as simple as aspirin, it isn't like Japan doesn't have aspirin.

@ Tateishi: I don't think Japan has the diehard heavy aspirin like we have..I mean...this stuff we got is really good....just like some kinda drug lol

That's why I bought aspirin and deodarant with me to Japan. Definitely bring deodarant because the stuff the have here isn't anti-perspirant.

hehe.. it was the other way around, windy. People wanted their own deo since they think the japanese one is no good

apparantly the japanese are no fans of putting aluminum in deodorants according to tateishi, and we want our aluminum deo

Have you been on a Japanese train in the peek of summer? Not too pleasant standing next to a suit clad salarymen in 30 degree celcius heat, 70% humidity and with no anti-persiperant on. They have deodarant but not antipersiperant, at least not good ones.

Alot of salarymen also wear a t-shirt under the business shirt so that people "can't see the sweat", but you can smell it a mile away. But it's getting cold now in Japan anyways, so no need to worry.

As for cold medicines, some that are common elsewhere are totally illegal in Japan. Check a guidebook.

carry JUST enough to last outside of america, then buy replacements in japan?
if not, japanese skills best be enough to explain if they find anything while searching bags...

if i remember correctly codeine (sp? you know, the cough medicine) is a no-no, as is psuedoepiphedrine - in the states you usually buy it under the name of sudafed (sp? again, on both those). psuedoepiphedrine is related to amphetamines and is a common decongestant - also good for keeping you perky when you have a cold. and i suppose it's those ties that makes japan nervous...

My very limited understanding of it is that the aluminum is the anti-perspirant part of the mix. The very fine particles basically block the pores of the sweat glands, plugging them up. There is some suspicion that the aluminum may be absorbed by the body and perhaps play a part in the onset of Alzheimers.
