Hello,

If possible, please, kindly, help me with translation for the sentence below:

その民話シリーズは そんな物語りの 臨場感を 大切にして 作りました

I could translate it as:

As for the people tales series, presence of such stories was decided to be important and it was published.

It is more likely wrong, yet I have assumed that 民話シリーズ is an action object for the verb つくる. So i have used "it was published" expression.

Please kindly correct me, if possible.

Thank you very much! :sorry:

I don't know if it's lack of context or lack of knowledge on my part, but I can't make out exactly what 作る refers to in this sentence. To me it could be either "the people tales series", or "such stories". However, I would change your translation of "そんな物語りの 臨場感を 大切にして" to:

"..., presence of such stories was highly though of and ..."

hiptanakaさん、

Thank you for your kind suggestions. I am far away from being familiar with Japanese language, so most of my translations are wrong.

As for this sentence, I assumed that 作る refers to その民話シリーズ, and
作る has meaning of "to publish".

At the same time, I used "was decided" because of ~にする presence.
Before, I read that it may express volitional decisions.

But, unfortunately, I can not be sure in my conclusions.

Thank you very much. :sorry:

Yes, that's correct.

そんな物語りの臨場感を大切にして is more likely an adverbial clause modifying 作りました.

Grammatically, the structure of the sentence is not the passive(民話シリーズは作られました), so it's considered that 民話シリーズ is not the subject but the direct object of 作る, and the subject "we" is omitted.

(literally)We published the folklore series caring about the feeling of being there in the stories.

Interesting, Toritoribe. Thanks for the explanation, even thought it wasn't my question.

Would it also be correct to translate it as: We published the folklore series caring about the realism of the stories? In that case I get it.

Yeah, that would be more natural than my literal translation.

Right. 臨場感 means その[のぞ]んでいるじ=まるでその場所にいるような感じ or "the feeling/sense as if being the place", and is often used for music, movie, darama or like that.

Wow, very elaborate explanation. Thanks! Sounds like it's used a bit like the word "immersion".

Toritoribeさん、

Thank you very much for your perfect explanations.
