May your research Uni be different from Master's Uni?

Hello,

I have a question to ask. Has anyone ever applied for a master's degree program in a different University from the one they been accepted as research student? I have been noticed by the embassy and later by the Tohoku University that I have been accepted as a research student there. My Field is Japanese Painting, but Tohoku University does not have a fine arts Faculty! I emailed them how is that possible, and if there has been a mistake, and this is the answer I got:

"MEXT, in consultation with the university concerned, will decide on the university where you shall be enrolled by taking into consideration your Japanese language ability and specialized courses you wishes to take.
Tohoku University actually accepted you as a research student.
MEXT will soon officially let you know the University which you will be enrolled from April."

So I didn't know that it also can work like that. If anyone has this kind of experience could you write how it was. :?

And if anyone going to Tohoku as a research student this April?

Well, the application guidelines did say that it would be alright for us to change universities after our research programs are over if our current universities seem unsuitable, so technically I think you can. Especially since the university they placed you in doesn't have a graduate program that would suit you. ^_^;;

painting?? it means the japanese art history?

I imagine that you didn't select your university yourself. (it would have been incredibly stupid to choose a university and supervisor in a university where you don't have the sources or equipment for research)
This probably means that MEXT had to look for a university for you. You can be happy that they found you a university where you can start to study Japanese and prepare for your master's course. However, I think that it is a good idea to apply for the master's course at a university better suited for you. This will also include passing the entrance exams (for the master's course) from the other university. I would suggest you don't wait too long (as soon as your Japanese gets decent you can start) to look for that and that you try to find contact with professors from the other university you want to apply to.

nah, the point is that. I wanted to study in a fine art faculty, but I ended up in art history.

yeah, it was chosen by MEXT. I didnt had enaugh time to apply to universities myself.

Yeah, there are several Universities I want to attend. Thanks. I will do as you said. My professor suggested that also.
