A large fire in the Saganoseki area of Oita city was still burning out of control on 19 November, having already swept across roughly 48,900 square metres and destroyed around 170 buildings. They reported that a 76-year-old resident had not yet been located, and that a woman in her fifties had suffered minor airway injuries. The blaze was said to have started on the evening of 18 November in a residential neighbourhood about 25 kilometres east of central Oita.

More than 170 buildings were damaged in a massive fire that swept through a dense residential area in the southwestern Japan city of Oita overnight, leaving one person dead, local authorities said Wednesday.
