There have been an incredible number of downloads of the Genki Sudo video. However, there appear to be many questions. I will attempt to answer them in one post. And yes I know there will still be skeptics when I am done, that's your right and your job. However, you do have the responsibility to actually investigate with an open mind and corroborate before you criticize anything in life. Can you say Newsweek?
First of all, it is real. The TV crew brought Genki Sudo to us. We did not know who they were bringing until they showed up, he was not part of any act, and frankly we did not even know who he was. His job was simply to determine if it was real. Ever since our first demo on ABC's ツ"Wide World of Sportsツ" in the 1970's people have not believed. Consider yourselves part of the majority. I could tell you many stories of the demo team from the 1970's. But if you do not believe these simple little TV demonstrations 30 years later, you would lock me up and throw away the key upon hearing the feats that were performed in the 1970's.
Second, it is a skill, and much like break falls it can be learned. There are no tricks. We do not ツ"suck our testicles into a body cavityツ". If you see movement, it is a result of the impact, not us flinching. In fact, we teach just the opposite in a combat situation. It is simply coordinating the mind, body and breath. Sudo's kick was in fact lifting Kevin off the ground. The drills you see on the Discovery channel sequences are just that, drills, baby steps for getting over the fear of being hit. Remember what it was like learning how to fall? The odd result of this training, we rarely bruise anymore. And yes, these guys have children and are still active.
Third most asked question, why? Unfortunately the TV shows are only interested in our ki-jutsu. Ki-Jutsu is a very, very small part of what we do, it is only taught once a year. We train in many arts, from Ju Jutsu and karate, to weapons. In our training we are not foolish to believe our techniques and skills will be perfect in a combat situation. In a fight blocks are missed, opponents are stronger, surprise is an element, but having trained in combat ki, we know that we can walk thru an attacker and finish our technique despite being hit.
Finally, check out this link for a published quote from Curtis Wong on combat ki:
http://jukoryu.com/php/ Recognize any names there? Are they reliable witnesses? Anyone care to contact them and call them liars?
For those that still do not believe, we have been through this with each generation. We have a lot of video and many, many people have tried to prove us wrong. We have video of Masaaki Satake (K-1), ツ"Bigツ" Joe Hess, Antonio Emay (Ultimate Fighter), Ed ツ"too tallツ" Jones (NFL), Randy White (NFL), Hershel Walker (NFL), Mike Saxton (NFL punter), Wes Bender (NFL), Rich Piana (1998 Mr. California) and many more. How many more is it going to take? And yes, we know, YOU haven't hit us yet.
It is easy to judge from behind your keyboard, our challenge to you: get out from behind your keyboard and then decide. Find a dojo to train at.
