Mail to a fellow japanese student

Hi! I'm a french student studying biology and I plan on going to Japan next year for an academic exchange.
In the process of gathering all the informations recquired my teacher asked for the help of a japanese student studying at my university.

I would like to write him an e-mail to thank him and even if he understands french I thought that i would be more classy to write it in japanese but therefore i want to make sure that I dont make any mistakes ^^"

As an introduction i would like to say something like "I'm the student who wants to go to japan (next year)" but I'm really not sure about how to phrase it.
I tought of something like "(来年)日本に行くつもり(の?)学生です"
Is it correct? I'm especially unsure about if there is a "no" or not (I never know whether you're suposed to put "no" between names or other in japanese....)

の is a possession marker, similar to "of" in English. つもり is treated as a noun, so you need の between つもり and 学生.

(来年)日本に行くつもりの学生です/(来年)日本に行きたいと思っている学生です is grammatically correct, but this sentence doesn't work well for your situation since this refers to more likely "a student who are going to go to Japan (next year)". Your teacher already asked him to help you, right? Then I would say 私はこの前(your teacher's name)先生から連絡していただいた、日本に行きたいと思っている(your name)です。 (LIT.)"I'm (your name) who wants to go to Japan, whom (your teacher's name) asked you to help previously".
