Lunar orbiter "SLIM" challenges landings from the middle of the night of 19th to the moon.

A live delivers a state of the landing operation from the JAXA Sagamihara campus in pinpoint month by small moon landing proof machine SLIM.
I am going to deliver it: Friday, January 19, 2024 around 23:00 ...
The moon landing plan: Saturday, January 20, 2024 around 00:20.

The small moon landing proof machine (SLIM) mission summary

I really hope it's successful. I just read an article about this mission last night in the Washington Post. They say that JAXA is attempting to land with far greater precision than has ever been done before. It other words, their target landing region is much smaller than normal. If successful, it will be a boon for future missions to set up bases, etc.

Looks like they successfully soft-landed! Although apparently the solar panel is not generating power, and the SLIM is operating on battery power.

It was the live broadcast of the moon landing and thought that the mission failed as there was not announcement of the success.

An aim of the material transportation for the moon base seems to be in sight in this.:giggle:

It looks like it landed on its nose! :)

The first picture of the stricken Slim spacecraft shows it rotated 90 degrees from how it should have come to rest. This will go some way to explaining the difficulties it has had in generating the electricity needed to operate. The image was captured by the small baseball-sized robot Sora-Q that was ejected from Slim moments before the touchdown last Saturday. "An abnormality in the main engine affected the landing attitude of the spacecraft," the Japanese space agency Jaxa said in a statement. One of the two big thrusters on Slim (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) stopped working during the descent.

Because the landing module landed at the slant ground, I seemed to lie sideways.

"It is landing failure." to be honest.

I perform the 3D laser measurement of the landing site on the next time and, after the investigations of a slant place and a rocky place, the sandy area, want you to aim at the safe landing.

It appears that SLIM has regained power, JAXA said on Monday, more than a week after it achieved an unconventionally precise lunar landing but ran out of electricity because its solar panels were at the wrong angle. The agency re-established communication with its Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) late on Sunday, nearly nine days after the probe's touchdown, which made Japan the fifth country to put a spacecraft on the moon. The probe was likely able to generate power thanks to a change in the sunlight's direction.

[commentary] SLIM landing success! However, is an engine damage?

The robot that it was born from "toy development" that small probe "SLIM" challenged lunar shooting to a first Japanese moon landing.
TBS NEWS DIG

Small proof machine "SLIM" aiming at a first Japanese moon landing is going to land at the moon about eight hours more later. The robot which came out of "toy development" of Japan takes an important role to photograph this historic moment on the surface of the moon.

Until small proof machine "SLIM" lands at the moon; about eight hours. The moment of the landing that expectation is sublimed into. A globe-formed robot is going to be released by "SLIM" when I press about 2 meters just before that to the surface of the moon. I photograph "SLIM" where this robot landed at the surface of the moon.

It is this that takes an important role. It is lunar exploration robot = SORA-Q. The system is such that it is transformed from a globe of the size that is about the same as a baseball, and a wheel appears and photographs the figure which it landed at of "SLIM" while moving the surface of the moon in this.

It is a technique of "the toy development" of Japan that it is used for this SORA-Q.

The globe produces a wheel, and the technique of the "heteromorphic robot" "transformer" is used for structure changing a form. In addition, the movement of the smooth joint of the sectional toy gaining popularity in "ZOIDS" series is used for the movement of the wheel to run over the small sand called "the Lego squirrel" in the surface of the moon.

In fact, it was equipped to lunar excursion module of ispace which faced the private first moon landing in this robot, last April, but lunar excursion module failed in a landing and was not able to challenge the exploration in a month.

The person in charge of JAXA is ...

JAXA space exploration innovation hub Daichi Hirano
When though "several months pass (from failure), the regrettable experience continues still lasting and is always when "it is regrettable" when I see the moon. It being very splendid that there is the rechance that can try it in this way. I want you to succeed by all means this time"

Besides, they send the data which ran the surface of the moon to the earth with neighboring photographs, and, as for the robot, these data are going to be made use of for the research and development of manned rover = "car running on the moon" by JAXA.

Japan's moon lander survives a second weekslong lunar night, beating predictions. Here's another pic of the lunar surface:
