Do you use (a) and (b) interchangeably?
(a) I like summer better than winter.
(b) I like summer more than winter.

To me they are interchangeable, as near as makes no difference.

I think you could possibly make a pedantic case that "more" is technically preferable, but most people wouldn't care.
