Hi all. Sorry to start a whole new thread for such a stupid little question, but I've been wondering for a while:
Is it okay for girls to use ore (I mean instead of watashi and the likes)?

Generally speaking, no.

Some junior high and high school girls do use the word "ore". I have never heard a woman of 20 or older using this word, though. It sounds very corse and mannerless for a girl to say it. I would advise against it, unless you want to be grouped with "trashy" people. (I can't think of a better way to say it.)

I've never exactly heard ore described as fun and cute....but whatever...and there are others for girls...

Female less impolite version is "Atashi"

It's an older word and she's only 21, but like I said, she uses it sparingly.

There's also "atai" which, I think, is the nearest to "ore" that women have but for some reason it doesn't seem to be very widespread. You could try, though, and see how many blank stares you get.

As Elizabeth san said, "atai" is not used very much. As far as I know, it's only used by okama(gay) and little girls in old tales.

Recently, almost all the high school girls use "uchi", at least in my area (Central Japan).

"Watakushi" is far too formal and polite. If a 21 year old woman uses it colloquially, people would think she is weird.
