Tourism Kyoto to discontinue one day bus passes

I just ran across this article stating that the one day bus pass will be discontinued in Kyoto because of it being useful to tourists.

Unfortunately, though, the pass seems to have become too convenient for travelers, and in the process an inconvenience for locals, and so the city government has announced that the Kyoto One-Day Bus Ticket will be abolished.

So instead of adding busses the solution is to discourage tourists. Kyoto really does seem to be having trouble coping with returning to pre-pandemic levels of tourism. There have been a few articles about the city doing things that discourage tourism. Its almost like they forgot where a good portion of their money comes from...

It looks like the bus+subway pass is still available so it might work out in the end. They make more money from those and tourists might use the subways a little more.
