The city has reprimanded Hotel Material in Higashiyama Ward, emphasizing that such denial contravenes regulations restricting hotels from turning away guests unless under exceptional conditions. The Israeli embassy in Tokyo has condemned the hotel's conduct, labelling it as blatant discrimination that contradicts Japan's commercial legislation. In a statement released on Friday, the embassy expressed that the grave nature of the incident seems to stem from the personal political stance of a staff member and is unequivocally intolerable. They stressed the importance of the hotel addressing the matter earnestly to avert additional damage and to maintain principles of dignity and impartiality.

The city, having investigated the matter, said the hotel's justification for rejecting the man's online booking "is not a legitimate reason for denying accommodation." The city warned the hotel of the illegal act verbally on Thursday and via a written document on Friday. The hotel declined to comment, saying a lawyer representing the facility is handling the situation. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said it is "unacceptable" to refuse accommodation on the basis of nationality.
