I was reading Kuroshitsuji and I've stumbled on this sentence I can't get

一体いくつの通り名を背負って
一体いくつのファミリーを潰してきた
The villain tells us that the protagonist destroys all enemies of the Queen, and then he asks the protagonist
How many [....]
How many families have you crushed?
The dictionary gives me
1. one's common name; one's popular name; alias
2. house name
for 通り名
But I don't really get the verb part 背負って
Can you please help?
