Simply put, I want to learn about Japanese culture because it's so very different from my own American culture. Some of the differences are bewildering, so I seek to unravel the mystery and understand why things are as they are.
My fascination with Japan admittedly started with my love of anime and manga. The more I watched and read, the more I wanted to understand the motivations of the characters. Honestly, I don't think this can be done without at least some knowledge of the culture that spawns these stories.
So here I am as an otaku hoping to learn enough about Japan and its ways to qualify as a true henna gaijin.
Welcome to the site, Henna! I've driven through Michigan a couple of times, going over the Mackinac Bridge (between two of the great lakes). Very pretty! (I'm in Virginia)
