Hi there,

I am a practitioner of Shito Ryu karate-do and have been involved with martial arts many years. My hope is to converse and meet others who share serious interest in Japanese and Okinawan martial arts, culture, philososphy and language. I would like to join your forum.

Welcome to JREF !

Once you get settled in, you might want to send Ippolito a private message. I don't think he checks in on JREF too often nowdays. I'm sure he would like to talk with you, he's a great guy(very friendly and great English).

Uncle Frank

tournements..

I practiced Shorin Ryu back home, but here I've joined a Wado circle at my school. It's quite fun and they're very strict about form, which has been very helpful. It's been a great experience studying here, and I've made good friends as well.

I have visited the Mas Oyama Sensei museum in the Kyoukushinkay
Hombu dojo in Ikebukuro and interviewed his daugther for an italian
martial atrs magazine.

Wow that would be great, if only just to watch. I still need a lot of work before I could approach more than an ichidan without embarrassment. Are you planning any future trips to Japan?

hey another italian!
I'm from Napoli(Naples for non-italians), and I'm nidan in shotokan; I go often to Japan but unfortunely I've never joined a japanese dojo because of my lack of time. I've been praticising in Napoli for over 10 years and I've been under the guide of Domenico Maurino(the father of Lucio), I'm sure you know him. Do you write for samurai magazine?

shotokan

Welcome
I think I have seen something about your Sensei, but I do not know him
personally.
I knew many years ago mツ≫?ケ Lombardi of Shotokan he was teaching in Naples with Mucibello, but many years ago.
It is a shame that you could not train in a small traditional
japanese dojo, completely different thatn our big gyms with music
dietitic bar, sauan etc......
in the dojo I went there is only tatami, a small small office, a small small
changing room and the smallesr bathroom you can image, no showers
and nothing else.
on the walls the are the names of the pupils printed in the wood
all the dojo is in wood.
But you appreciate (as you practice karate) the atmosphere....
" a buon intenditor poche parole" an there you practice a rea martial art
bases on a serious and costant training, education, respect for your sensei,
for all others, it is important the you grow in karate always in good heatlth, wich (Toyama Sensei words) it is more important than
tournaments, agonism etc....
I hope that in may issue of Samurai there will be pubblished my article
about my visit in Tokyo to Toyama Sensei, who tooked Wado ryu in Italy
in the 60's....
ciao

Kyokushinkai

I forgot to write you that on Samurai of march there is my article
about my interview to Kuristina Oyama , soke Mas Oyama
of the Kyoukushinkai..daughter..I visited his dojo in Ikebukuro, there is a small musem
about soke Oyama history, and I saw the dojo where many
full contact karate have been fighting....
