So the other day, I was working out with Ken, a Black Belt and Ex-marine when I noticed a Kanji character tatooed on his upper arm. "Why do you have 'Dog Nipple' on your arm?" I asked. "It says tranquility," he relied. "I think you should have that checked." I said. I hope he cools down enough to laugh a little when he finds out that I can't read Kanji. :p

Actually I doubt that a single kanji would unambiguously mean 'tranquility'. If it was for example it's just as likely to be read meaning Japan / Japanese style :-P

Hey, it is one character...I'd get the actual Kanji, but that means I'd have to get close to him.

I wasn't doubting you ... I was just thinking he's probably got yet another dubious kanji tattoo.

Incidently, Dog nipple would probably be three kanji :p

It would be horrible (but a bit funny) if he found out it said something embarassing. ☝ (I'm practicing keeping a straight face) I wonder how many Americans (especially servicemen) have dubious Kanji.

Oh that's hillarious!!!! I would have loved to have seen the look on his face.

Often, it seems, there is no common sense associated with fashion. I used to be amused by the nonsensical combinations of English words on the t-shirts that I would see young Japanese people wearing. I suppose that this turnabout is fair play in that so many American youth are now sporting kanji tatoos.

Personally, I would be damn sure I knew what a kanji meant before having it permanently imprinted on my skin. A lot of the younger guys who work out at the gym where I go, have kanji tatoos. I am astounded by how many don't know what the characters mean, only that they 'look cool'.

SOOO many people get these tattoo's and it is so funny what they "think" it means, anyways I would not be the one to wanna find out I had something retarded like that on my body. LOL

Walk up to one of them with a concerned look on your face and ask why his tatoo says "dog nipple." (They get a kinda worried/concerned/hurt look)

That's a great idea. I'll have to give it a try.

There's a new series called "Committed" in which an Asian store keeper tells a Black man that his tatoo means "when two men love each other, well you are the one like a woman."

Wouldn't suprise me if that actually happened to one of these morons...

...that gives me a great idea though: There are about 5 tattoo parlors on my block, I might just make a list of kanji with those kinds of meanings and switch them with the patterns in the books the customer's select from.

I wouldn't be surprised if even the guy running the shop didn't notice--they don't seem to be any more familliar with kanji than their customers...

I think I mentioned this somewhere else, but I knew a girl who had Kanji for what she thought was 'naughty' tattooed on her lower hip, groin area... hahha but it really said 'dirty'.... oops

i saw a film where a guy went to a chinese hooker. He was sitting on the bed with a full back piece of a dragon with chinese symbols.
and he's going all "It means warrior" blah blah. and she turns to him, whilst laughing, and says "It means 'Big Man with tiny penis".....

I know a guy who got his daughters name tattooed on his back (whilst on holiday in spain)...and as he had been acting the big man his mates told him the tattooist had spelt it wrong...and of course he couldn't see it. This went on for ages, when he told his wife she went ballastic and told him to get rid of it (not quite sure how he'd do it!) and he was going to beat up the tattooist...luckily the studio was closed so the prank could last a little longer.

I'm always dubious of getting foreign lettering as a tattoo...unless you can read it, you'll always be relying on someone else.

Yeah, im glad I knew what my tattoo meant before I got it done. Other people have had fun pretending that it meant something else though.

i have latin in one of my tattoos...it means Angel, my pet name for my little lady
