Kaneto Shindo Memorial Translation

Hi all.

Wondering if anyone can help me translate a few lines of English into Japanese?

It's for a short video which is a tribute to the great Japanese film director Kaneto Shindo (hence my user name).

He died aged 100 this year.

I want to use four lines of Japanese which will appear over some night time shots of woodland, as if it were a titles sequence to a 60s Shindo film.

Here is the text...

One Hundred Years*

A Master of Cinema

Kaneto Shindo [1912-2012]

*ideally I don't want to use Hindu-Arabic numerals in this line, just Kanji characters. The dates in the last line of text are fine as numbers though.

Also the text will read from left to right (not vertically).

Unfortunately I don't know any fluent Japanese speakers and this isn't a paid project so I can't afford to pay anyone to translate (it's personal project, I'm a fan of old Japanese cinema and would like to commemorate Shindo's passing).

Any assistance greatly appreciated

P.S. If you haven't seen any Shindo films go and see Onibaba immediately!

That's a lot more succinct than the version Google Translate came up with.

Just to clarify, does the third line mention anything about cinema or does it just mean a master or maestro?

I actually quite like the simpler 'a master' anyway but just wanted to check.

Yes, 巨匠 means just "master", but often refers to a great cinema directer, just as 巨匠ルキノ・ヴィスコンティ "maestro Luchino Visconti".

Just finished photographing the titles and I'm making mattes of them now (doing it the old fashioned way)
