Which one do you guys think its gorier/scarrier? It's obvious that these two movies beat Battle Royale by a mile.
 
Out of the two, I woud probably say Jisatsu Sakaru. Probably watched it over a dozen times
 
Jisatsu Circle gave me a chill.

I haven't seen the other one. Can you tell me what that one is about?
 
I must say that I really liked both films, but Jisatsu Sakaru was very gore-like and scary!! The soundtrack for Jisatsu sakaru is cool too.

Kairo gave me the goosepimples, as it was creepy and sent shivers down my spine... :shiver:

Kairo is about some people who find their friends being attracted to a creepy website, which shows a dark room and "someone" there. On the website a message pops up saying "do you want to encounter a ghost?"
Everyone who has seen the website starts acting weird and commits suicide all of a sudden....Scary stuff.

haha no i watched both of them. I couldnt finish Kairo because my parents were coming back so yea -.-

I prefer Jisatsu...the lady cut her own finger..OUCH!

And how is it you can even classify Battle Royale in the same list? They are two different types of films.

Suicide Circle (As it is called in the US under translated Romanji), imho, was an absolute dud that strayed off in too many directions for no apparent reasoning and really could have used better direction. It was a shame that Ishibashi Ryo had to waste his time making that film, as I have been a fan of his for a long time now.

The other film, I have not seen as of yet.

If you want good scary/creepy films, go with the following....

1. Cure. - A disturbing film by Kurosawa Kiyoshi tells the story of a detective, played by Yakusho koji (Shall we Dance and Warm Water Ender a Red Bridge) investigating a strange rash of murders where the offenders have no idea that they had any involvement in them.

2. Juon - Probably talked to death by now, so I will spare you the synopsis.

3. Ring trilogy - While Ring 2 was pretty weak, it is totally worth watching Ring 0.

4. Audition - A creepy tale from Miike Takashi about searching for love in the wrong place and the wrong woman. Ishibashi Ryo plays a widower whom is urged by his son and a close friend to begin dating again. In a brilliant scheme, he and his friend hold an audition for a movie that will never exist to help the widower pick his new wife. After interviewing 30 girls, the choice is made and terror ensues.

Out of all of these, Audition freaked me out the most only because I had started dating my fiance, whom is Japanese, around the same time that I saw Audition! I remember we had went away and I was snoring loudly one night and she was trying to hold my nose closed to keep me from snoring and I woke up during this! I swear to you, I ran from the room! What an effect a movie can have on you, huh?

you should tell your girlfriend not to pinch your nose. It is not only uneffective, but it might cause you a difficulty of breathing or worse. You should change your pillow or the way you lay your head.

"Audition" didn't scare me at all, I thought it was kind of gross. Neither my husband got that movie even though a lot of male viewers have highly reccomended it as one of the scariests.
 

Yeah, I told her that would do nothing for my snoring.

As for Audition not scaring you, you do kind of have to be a guy for it to really freak you out!

Controversial in what way? Because it has blood?

Suicide circle isn't controvercial in any way. There's hardly a plot, it has a half assed message that it struggles to get out. The story goes all over the place.

The Japanese schoolgirls were killing themselves in suicide pacts by the boatload in the movie. While suicide is nothing new to Japan, if the writer/director wanted to make it controversial and thought provoking, they should have tried less blood, and less hitting of naked women and puppies wrapped up in sheets at a bowling alley while someone sings a song.

No. The idea of children being used in a governmental sponsored lottery to kill each other to prove as a result of the alternate future Japanese economy and social breakdown is a little different than some ridiculous girl band spreading the message of suicide through their music.

Any movie can have Japanese kids getting killed, it doesn't make it controversial.

Besides, as much as I love BR, I think it is just a new telling of Lord of the Flies.

Then our whole disagreement is pointless if you back off that easily.

Don't always listen to critics, they use words like controversial when they can't think of anything else to say about something.

It can be a friendly debate. We needn't fight tooth and nail over it. Right?

Sometimes it's just plain fun to have other opinions on something.

For instance, many will argue that BRII was absolute trash. I, however, enjoyed it. Not because I was comparing it to the first story, but because I enjoy Takeuchi Riki's over the top performance. In fact, I have to say I enjoy him more after seeing this and then getting the chance to see his older works.

It's a tough movie to enjoy if you are hoping for more of the same.

My only complaint with the movie was that when the director's son took over, the whole movie became a political statement.

But, I am in a minority in my enjoyment of the film.

I must admit that I am among the majority here, who thought that BRII was disappointing, but that was ONLY because I saw the first Battle Royale and thought that the theme was the same in both movies. I agree with ant that if you compare these two films, the BRII will definately disappoint.
If viewed BRII separately, it is good film with a political theme, my boyfriend saw BRII (without having seen the first one), and he really liked the film.
But, I did not like the sequel.....because of comparisons and expectations after the first film.
 
I hope that if they do a third film, which I hear may just happen, they move away from the political p!ssing match and maybe strike against those responsible for the BR Act.
