Ju-on sound effects

Just a minor issue;

Does anyone know if there is any particular meaning to the sound made by the ghost Kayako in Ju-on. You know,that weird (in)human clicking sound.
Is it something to do with how she died, or is there some other cultural meaning to it?

I found it strangely creepy - I think it reminds me of a nightmare I had,
or when I got freaked out by the noises a mad person was making, when I was on a train ages ago.
I think this is why I like a lot of newer Japanese horror, it is unsettling in a psychological way and more surreal - far more creepy than buckets of blood and guts!

Im not too sure about that, but I hate that open mouthed scary moaning screechy noise. When I went to see it at the movies, I went with some friends, and one of them turned to me during the movie and did it *ugh* made it worse to go home to an empty apartment at 'midnight'.
Japanese are great at horror films! They do such a good job at it without all the crappy computer effects etc...
Ew like in 'The Audition' and she's chopping that guys leg off with wire, the whole noise makes it seem like you've been watching it right there. Spine tingling stuff!

My girlfriend hates the creaky noise too!
Unfortunately i don't know if there is any significance or relevance to anything in particualr...but it is incredibly scary.
I would imagine they chose to use it because it was just so damn horrible! but strangly cool!...I sometimes make the noise as i'm following my girlfriend up or down the stairs! I also grab her leg through the banisters when i'm downstairs...she hates me!

When I was a kid, my big sister used to brush all her (long) hair in front of her face, to scare me.
Perhaps this is why all those tortured,vengeful female ghosts in Japanese horror films had such an effect on me - my sister has damaged me for life!

That noise seems to me that they are trying to make the teeth grating sound, like the one people make when they are sleeping.
I'm not sure if it's related to how Kayako died or cultural reference to it, but it sure is creepy. I think that's because the noise makes you think of human bones falling apart or squeeching against each other.

I agree with you that has unsettling feeling to it.
