JLPT 2級 thread

PS-Jimmy seal, 日本語検定 is just a generic term for Japanese test that I used rather than typing out 日本語能力試験, as I'm sure you know.
日本語検定というのはあらゆる試験に適用されるわけではないかな?
その名前は別の試験を指すかもしれないのですね。
誤解しないように、多分分からない場合は、省略しないほうがいいと思います。

I think that it's possible to reach the 二級 level without acquiring the ability to read a lot of text. But one should start making efforts to read around the point where they reach 二級 and should absolutely read a lot to prepare for 一級.

The top two levels test a lot of obscure grammar points that won't come up in everyday reading, so it's worth studying grammar to prepare for those tests. Good books for this are 日本語能力試験に出る文法, which are published in 一級 and 二級 versions. Being familiar with a good bunch of grammatical expressions will help with reading too.

The word 検定 suggests that the test is based on a fixed standard, and as evidenced by last year's 二級 debacle, the JLPT obviously has no such constraint. If you're looking for a short way to type 日本語能力試験, how about "JLPT?"

Thanks, Jimmy. I'm glad to see that further clarification of your opinion.

This week, I'd like to ask all of you who are planning on taking/have taken 2級 to post comments about things that were/are still hard to grasp; areas of difficulty, if you will.

Much obliged,
JLJZen

I haven't found the past tests online, but I think you can find some similar stuff from MLC MLC Japanese Language School in Tokyo | Online lessons for English speakers and some sample questions at http://momo.jpf.go.jp/jlpt/e/result_e.html but to be honest, you'll probably have to download them or something.
Otherwise, try: http://www.jlpt.com/archive/index.php?t-334.html and http://www.jlpt.com/archive/

I also sent you a message about this.

This week, I tried to cover the subtle differences between
からいうと・から見ると・からすると

At first glance, I found it kind of rough, but after going over it more and more, and getting more experience with example sentences, etc, I have managed to get a clearer picture.

This week, 上がる/上げる/挙げる/揚げる and their various usages are discussed.

This week, a few uses of たつ / たてる
