Japanese WWII uniforms

Hi!

I wondered if anyone can provide me with photos of Japanese WWII uniforms used esp. during the Philippines at the time of the war. It would also help if you can provide the uniform parts, like what those flaps behind the caps are for and what they're called? And are Japanese privates allowed to carry swords (e.g. a family heirloom for luck, something like that) or were only officers and NCOs allowed to have such?

And can anyone help me out in this forum? Thanks!

The flaps protect the neck from sunburn. It's based on the French Legionnaire's Cap -

and are Japanese privates allowed to carry swords (eg a family heirloom for luck, something like that) or were only officers and NCOs allowed to have such?

Officers carried swords - either their own or if they didn't own one they were given a machined sword. NCO's might have carried swords, but privates and general infantry would have just carried bayonets.

I like WW2 uniforms from every country. Too bad they weren't used for picnics instead of war. But they look better in movies. Why is it that only military and school kids get to wear uniforms? And waiters/esses. I could go on a safari...

I went to a military museum in Louisiana, and they explained about the uniforms, the helmuts were influenced by German WW1 helmut design. It was an interesting tour.
