Japanese War Crimes Against Humanity

Are there any accurate figures of the number of civilians killed at Nanjing? The figure seems to vary widely depending on who is asked. I searched the site briefly, but couldnt find a statistic.

Thanks bossel. The reason i asked is that, after many many heated debates, i know to stay away from this topic with my Japanese friends and girlfriend. 100% of them contend that the Chinese government has greatly exaggerated the statistic so as to bilk more money from the Japanese government. 300,000 is way greater than the number they usually give me.

On a related note, following one such discussion, i asked my gf if she knew how many jews had been killed during WWII. To my amazement, she said no (this is a japanese university educated woman). When i asked her to guess, she said 20,000.

When i picked my jaw up off the floor, i told her the real number. She refuses to believe it. She then proceeded to tell me that Japanese, German, and Italian people all have very similar minds. I considered telling her that everyone is different, but then i thought better of it.

No problem.
Actually, I first thought as well that it was exaggerated (knowing my Chinese friends), but the number seems well established.

Says a lot about their education (or memory). She better shouldn't mention that number in Germany. Would be considered Holocaust denial, punishable by law.

Oh well, maybe we have (to a degree). Germans feel a certain sympathy for Japan for being in a similar situation after WWII & going through the same economic "miracle".
But usually Germans consider Koreans to be the "Asian Prussians".

When it comes to WWII itself, the mindset in Germany is completely different from that in Japan, I think. The guilt is so deeply ingrained nowadays that many Germans have a problem to accept that Germans were not only perpetrators but also victims. Until some years ago everybody who would have mentioned allied atrocities against Germans would have been considered neo nazi. It's still slightly problematic.

Today i saw a documentar on National Geograhpic about the POW's in Japanese hands that had to build the bridges in Burma, amonst them the one on the river Kwai, horrible stuff. Very cruel indeed. I wonder, where did all that sefl-proclaimed honor go?

The people on this forum have absolutely NOTHING to do with what happened 60+ years ago. Most of the people who were around then are not even around now!
Well such virtue might not be necessarily universal: if someone did a bad thing in the past, it seemingly is perfectly normal for Koreans to blame his/her children, grandchildren and further. Examples:

S. Korea's Ruling Party Head Resigns on Father's Past
Park Apologizes for Her Father

Some people are looking forward to witnessing a petit cultural revolution there, based on an interesting retroactive witch-hunt law (news report.)

Bush killed more people then the japanese genicide. I heard also that bush's grand daddy created hitler and funded Stalin and the red chinese army.

while I agree that there are stil large number of Koreans who think the principle of guilt by association ,Mr Shin did not resign by his father's record.

He had cheated his father's record several time in the medias interviews.
Thats why he had to resign.

The kids of ex empire military or government workers still strong in Korea.
Parliament members Park,Lee,Yun etc etc all have their fathers served for empiral military but they did not resign.
And nobody demands them to resign here.

You have something to substantiate that? Or is it just irresponsible hearsay like the remainder of your post was?

None of his posts have been serious here. Just jokes and such.

I noticed that. Unfortunately, among hardcore Bush-haters it is sometimes hard to tell which ones are having a good time and which ones seriously believe a bunch of the stuff they say.

Any idea why the rep point icon doesn't show up for him? The one you click to apply rep points, I mean.

Because gipper(who was kochisho and then kin'niku) has been banned.

Haha.. I knew it was kochisho.. I could just tell.. He's trying to get people to defend bush by making completely outrageous claims.. Alas, Bush doesn't become perfect just because he didn't commit genocide or any other of the ludicrous things you said. So shut up and stay banned.. Heh.

I justed wanted to show how pathetic and Anti American this board is and how some of you sound. I was banned for supporting Bush. Some may say I "insulted "members but not until I was insulted and attacked first. I thank Winter for his kind support.
If you want enemies then I'm your huckleberry. I'm writing an article about this board and japan today. Plus I'm a moderator on a body building site with 25,000 members world wide. Those guy would love to come here and stir up ****.
Oh, and I have evidence tha an adminstrator/ member attemted to send me viruses via email. I traced down the ip addresses and it comes back to kddi.co.jp 216.127.82.97
211.134.247.5 kddi told me this was a serious crime in japan and it was being investigated.

No wonder why I was the only open Bush supporter here, if you don't agree with the liberal stance of this board you are banned.
I am open to dialog, otherwise I'll inform you all when and where the articles are published.

Cheers

Yeh, You're a real mature and non-insulting guy for sure..

I can definately see you not being much of the personal attack type.. You seem like a real intelligent KKK member.. Congratulations on being a moderator on a Body Building board man.. Try not to harass the black members though.. Keep it to the clan meetings and such.. Jackass

AS the saying goes!!!

Once a jar head always a jar head! I think they failed in your bootcamp brainwashing. Tell all your friends you need help, maybe someone can recommend a good shrink to get you some help. If I want to hear from idiots like you, I'll go to a gun forum or read Soldier of Fortune Magazine. Please go annoy your friends on your muscle forum, they might want to put up with your crap!

Uncle Frank

I'm no Bush fan. But I don't think he's responsible for more deaths than Nanking.

Monkey, I beleive is probably either one of the angry white males or perhaps a sheltered suburbanite.

Perhaps some exposure to a broader word view will liberate his poor conservative mind.

Why would a conservative mind need liberating, pray tell? I count myself a conservative. You may freely make assumptions regarding my race, if it makes you feel better. Doesn't seem like behavior a liberal would engage in, but if it's your habit, feel free to go right ahead.

He got banned for being combative, not for being conservative.

to me,the number of death is not the biggest issue,
even if the true number of casualties is less than 300,000
it does not make the Japanese any 'better',they committed the crimes and yet their government still refuses to apologize,
instead, they keep brainwashing the their citizens.

An opportunity to prove your loyalty.

The problem with you is that you're just here to cause trouble. You're not here for constructive discussion, but just to vent your frustrations. Your friends may approve of your "opinions" but here we don't really give a rat's behind.

Cool, he was banned.. Anyone who speaks Korean that can give us a translation?

I hope you take no offense. Some like O-Sensei Rush are quite proud to be angry white males. Although conservatives come from almost every background, the largest numbers demographically come from the sheltered suburbanite and angry white male contingent (at least here in the US.) As gipper was banned for being combative, it would be safe to assume that he may belong to the latter group. But again, it is an assumption and you know what they say about assumptions.

As for your race, I am going to assume that you are human, as am I. This makes me feel great.

Hopefully you belong to the "compassionate conservative" faction.

And as long as you are an expert on how liberals should behave, praytell- can you advise me on music, food, and fasion?

LOL

Actually, I wasn't surprised to find that a liberal would make race a factor. I was just teasing.

You're really fond of that "angry white male" mantra, aintcha? All the anger I have heard of has been coming from the camp currently NOT in power....but that doesn't count, because they're liberals. Liberals are allowed to be angry, and no one is supposed to point it out.

Who's making race a factor? And if it wasn't for that poll thing on the other post I wouldn't even know that I was a Liberal.

It has more to do with socio-economics and realpolitik. Anyone can be angry. Latinos get angry, African Americans get angry, Asians get angry. Political anger is a powerful motivator. The poor, the unemployed, homosexuals, and even women get angry. But you won't win an election catering to their anger. Check the stats on who actually votes. Angry white men rock. You win them, and the White House is yours.

And besides when liberals get angry they just come off as whiney. They get off on that shrill political whimper and suddenly everyone is speed dialing a Whambulance.

Back to the Rape of Nanking thread though, that's a major serious topic not widely known by anyone outside of China...- we should break this off to another thread if we want to keep going.

Sabro

Actually, I don't care to keep going. I'm pretty much burned out on pre-election political bickering and have decided to take a breather until after the results are final. (Sometime in mid-December, if history repeats)
