This is part of the museum's collection.
Japanese vase on three legs.
If anyone can enlighten me about any information that would be great.
Can someone assist with the signature on the base of the vase please?
Incense burner.
The bottom says 薩摩焼 (Satsuma yaki - or "Satsuma ware"). The middle character is a simplified version of the one I have typed out.
I'm not a pottery expert, but my impression is that these highly decorative (lurid?) designs were meant to appeal to tourists to Japan in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
