Communal living is a far cry from ethnic tribalism, and Japan is a long way away from Papua New Guinea. If you are looking for a commune to join, good luck finding one. If you are looking for a tribe to join, you are loonier than most of the delusional would-be expats that come to this forum.

I know the Ondekoza and have attended their performances. They are a "commune" if a theatrical arts company falls into that category and are no way into subsistence living...

There have been TV programs on families (the type based on blood relations) trying to live off the land, but they appear to rely on selling their produce to earn money and also not able to maintain that style of living for a long time, adopting the modern lifestyle when the children reach school age and the family needs to earn more to give them education or when the working adults in the family are taken ill--whichever happens first.

I realize Bosozuko are first and foremost the motorcycle gangs but there is a slight overlap with the drifting and auto scene. I don't know if it has its own name, but cars like the ones below often just get termed as Bosozuko too because of the noise, outlandish style, uniqueness, propensity for street racing; alot of the same undesirables get lumped togehter.






And then there's dekotora!!




I've lived in Japan and seen them around, I know they're considered a scourge by many but so are alot of the youth here who street race and blast their stereos at night, every culture has its fuel-injected youth and gearheads I can't help it I used to be one. The vehicles above are far cooler than anything I've seen here in North America.

Holy Cow! Those trucks remind me of some of the rides at the county fairs in Wisconsin.
