Japanese Street Fashion

So A few months ago my friend introduced me to a magazine called "fruits". I really enjoyed this magazine alot. I think that the whole Japanese street fashion is pretty awesome. My question is how do I get a hold of some of this clothing? Like how do I get information on some of the popular brands and stores for people my age? Does anybody know links to maybe websites where I can buy Japanese Clothing? Any info would be awesome thanks again!

Unless you happen to live in a major metropolitan area or near a liberal university campus I wouldn't recommend prancing around in some of stuff I've seen on the streets in Tokyo. Most stuff looks like what I see around the UC-Berkeley area or even on the haight in SF, but some of the stuff would truely make Liberace blush.

One of my friends is really into this, and truthfully the only thing I can say about it is "Well atleast it seems alot more cheerful than Goth."

i love the book of fruits... but how many people really wear that things? my girl from kobe, almost never see them... is it just parts of tokyo harayuki ( forgive me if i write this wrong) and osaka...

in my city there walk many transexuals in latex on the street sometimes... aaaaaah get me out of here

yes.. do look more cheerful than Goth.... happynes vs depressed ( just the way i think about goth....)

Haha dude what?

I promise that I almost NEVER saw people wearing those clown costumes anywhere in Japan. Mayba, MAYBE, some folks wore them as part of the "Harajuku on a Sunday sit on the bridge and loiter all day in funny costumes that I never wear day to day" scene, but even then, most of those were gothic lolita. Its very likely that what these people are wearing are NOT day to day fashions, but instead are "freak you out" fashions they wear on Sundays. Mind you even then it seemed that most of the kids that did taht went to and from Harajuku/Meiji bridge area in rather normal clothes, towing a tiny little suitcase with their 'costume', which they changed into in a public toilet or friends van or some such.

Ok so I'm getting this like are you crazy? and like what are you thinking. But I'm a very style crazy type of person, and I'm not talking like the "halloween" costumes. But I have seen some half normal stuff from there.

Well, you have to realize its not really a specific style, atleast the full blow costumes, so much as an activity. It's like playing "dress up", but with a bunch of other people and in public, and in costumes so poorly color co-ordinated you can damage your retina by staring straight at them.

Anyway, the "tamer" stuff is pretty much indistinguishable from alot of the styles you'll see on the American west coast in places like L.A. and San Fransico. It's not really very "Japanese" I guess you could say. But the full blown crazy costume definately is.

I guess it all depends on what your end goal is - just updating your style, or trying to get into the (non existant in the USA) scene?

I suppose you don't have to wear Japanese clothes to be Fruits. XD You can wear any clothes you want, just be creative with them. I think that's the main idea in Fruits.
