Japanese Story Writing Help

I've been studying Japanese for a few years, and I'm in the middle of creating an animation in Japanese for a class. Although the language should be somewhat formal, I don't want to sound like a robot. If anyone could help these sentences have better grammar and maybe flow a little better, that'd be awesome.

むかしむかし日本海で小さいタツノオトシゴと魚がいました。

Long, long ago, in the Japan Sea, there was a little seahorse and a fish.


タツノオトシゴの名前は茜で、魚の名前はあおいでした。

The seahorse's name was Akane, and the fish's name was Aoi.


あるの日、茜とあおいは喫茶店に行って、コーヒーをちゅうもんしました。

One day, Akane and Aoi went to a coffee shop and ordered coffee.


すると、あおいはトイレに行きたかったから、茜は待ちました。

Shortly after, Aoi wanted to go to the bathroom, so Akane waited.

むかしむかし日本海に小さなタツノオトシゴと魚がいました。
(小さい is not wrong, but 小さな sounds more natural.)
タツノオトシゴの名前は茜で、魚の名前はあおいでした。
(You can also say むかしむかし日本海に、茜という名前の小さなタツノオトシゴと、あおいという名前の魚がいました。)

ある日、茜とあおいは喫茶店に行って、コーヒーをちゅうもんしました。

I would separate the last sentence into two sentences.
間もなく、あおいはトイレに行きたくなりました。茜はあおいが帰ってくるのを待ちました。

Thank you Toritoribe. Are the red parts things that should be removed?

Whoops, nevermind. I actually just noticed that those red parts were corrected already. lol

One more little thing though. In the last sentence, if I want to say that Aoi didn't return, could I say:

茜はあおいが帰ってくるのを待ちましたが、帰りませんでした。

Or is that too repetitive and weird? (like in English if I said "Akane waited for Aoi to return, but he didn't return")

That's not weird but might be a little bit repetitive. I would say 茜はあおいを待ちましたが、帰ってきませんでした。

Okay, so it's been a long time since I've been here, but the project is still going on and I'd like to finish up my script. Much appreciated if I could get any more help at all. If there's just an English sentence on its own it means I really don't have much of an idea of how to write the sentence at all. Again, if things sound strange/robotic/anything like that, please correct me

トイレにさがして、岩の下にさがして、海苔にさがして、でも、あおいを見えないでした。
She searched the bathroom, under a rock, and in the seaweed, but Aoi could not be seen.

それから、海岸に行って、へんなあしあとを見ました。
And then, she went to the shore and saw strange footprints.

茜はあしあとをたどって、distant figure を見ました。
Akane followed the footprints and saw a distant figure.

She went closer and closer, and saw a kappa and Aoi.

かっぱの名前はみどりでした。
The kappa's name was Midori.

みどりはじゃあくで、魚のかんぞうを食べるのが好きでした。
Midori was evil and liked to eat fish livers.

Akane paused and thought for a moment, and bowed to Midori.

Midori bowed back to Akane, and the water in her head poured out.

トイレの中をさがしても、岩の下をさがしても、海草の中をさがしても、あおいは見つかりませんでした。

茜はあしあとをたどって、遠くを見ました。
