Hello all;

I am currently a student studying at Concordia University in Quebec, Canada. I'm partaking in a Marketing class in which I require some primary data.

We are researching a potential new product to introduce into the Japan market. This product consists of a shoe that has automatic laces which tie themselves, saving the user from having to go throughout the trouble.

This product we feel is perfect for the elderly population and/or people with mobility issues.

Laces? Do you realize that many Japanese don't even use shoes with them? And even for those that do, they wear the shoes in such a way that they just slip shoes on and off without ever even tying or untying.

I hope this isn't a real product designed and engineered specifically to address the needs of the market you mention, because it strikes me as a product nobody here would need or want.

I did fill out your survey, though. Since it is targeted at Japanese consumers, don't you think it would be best to put the prices in yen instead of dollars? The question about where we would expect to find it should also have an option for "I wouldn't expect to find it anywhere". Lacking that, I left that one unanswered.

Hey, Hubble, can I use these laces to choke my enemies remotely? :?

I mean, throw those them into face and press a button on remote control - laces will finish everything automatically. Could it be used for?

I hope it is a make believe product.

As a nurse taking care of the elderly , almost all use shoes with velcro or elastic laces so they just slip them on like a slipper. Both types have been around for ages . If the automatic laces require any skill at all to use , or even bending over to push a button , they probably won't do well.

The product is in fact real, launched by a small independent inventor from the United States, her project of which received funding via the online platform Kickstarter.

My involvement in the idea however, is purely fictional, I just require some primary data on what other peoples views are on the idea and from people that perhaps know more information in regards to Japanese culture than myself.

I appreciate the feedback and the survey responses so far!

Completely off topic: has Canada changed the spelling of its provinces recently? I noticed your avatar has a peculiar rendition of what I used to know as "Quebec".
