No problem, it's still sitting in my room so I'm going to go watch it now, I won't ruin the bonus footage for you or anything, just look for a skinny skateboarder in a red and grey sweatshirt though that doudtfully made the cut since I just chilled with him, but it could happen, the camera crew of like two was all over there with us.

This discussion has taken an interesting turn. We are actually philosphizing on what life is meant for. On one side, we have the pixiecute team (Mark and Sayaka, if I followed well) and co who find that love is more important than "trophies". On the opposite side Josh, all by himself, but unruffled in his convictions. I'd like to play the devil's advocate here.

I actually know Japanese girls that are like Josh, which means that life is made to be enjoyed by having a maximum number of partners when you can. Those J-girls are usually worried of losing their attractiveness once their 20's are past. Josh doesn't need to worry, since men, like wine, tend to get better with age (till a certain point, but easily 15-20 years later than women). Anyway, Japanese men are not known for their loyalness after marriage and so far, Japanese women tend to accept that their husband meet much younger girls because they are no longer attractive. That's why the "enjo kosai" (50-60 years old "ojisan" dating teenage or early 20's girls) phenomenon exist in Japan and why hostess bars or porno mags are so popular. Considering this, I wouldn't think that Josh, being only 20, is wrong to lead the life he leads. As the girls he f:cks don't think probably much more of him as what he thinks of them (it's a purely sexual relationship), I don't see where the problem is. Of course, it's shocking to here that he doesn't even respect them has human beings, but I fully understand that Josh's blunt provocativeness is part of his character. Not sure he has much more respect for anybody else either, so I shouldn't get offended by such comments.

I have to go. I'll post more later, as it's far from over.
 
just out of curiousity, josh...out of all the girls you have come across, was there ever one that you just thought, 'she better than all the others...i'd be happy with just her.' or does that not really enter your mind?

do you ever think about when you will be older and that you will be unhappy because you have nobody? living in the present is okay, but i think its important to take into account the past and future as well.

but i don't think josh here is a rarity in our country. many guys have this attitude in america (at least thats my understanding). all of them are not as prolific as josh, but they have a similar mentality. i am just not one of them.
 
Actually, I couldn't disagree with you more Maciamo and frankly i'm a little surprised you felt the need to justify his original remarks. Josh is a big boy, he can fend for himself. 8-p The issue at hand is not one of whether or not someone chooses to live a gratuitous lifestyle of promiscuity and self-gratfication. Rather, it is the ramifications of such a decision that must be weighed carefully into consideration. To espouse such remarks as the following clearly shows a fundamental lack of respect for women in general.

"They are easy targets for what I live for, money, power and womanizing."

To adopt such a cavalier attitude at such a young age is very dangerous because it represents a wholly unhealthy perspective of the opposite sex. I am not so naive to think that young men in their prime are not preoccupied with sex, in fact I know it all too well (heh). Nevertheless, it never became my sole priority to the point where it was my signature mark so to speak as in the case of Josh. I have read every one of his posts to date since my arrival and I can honestly attest that the majority by far inevitably contain some reference to his incessant pursuit of sexual gratification regardless of whether or not it was related to the topic at hand. Can you honestly say such a preoccupation represents a healthy attitude?

I'll be perfectly honest with you. Josh and I pretty much don't see eye to eye on anything and I tend to dismiss and discount his opinion as immaterial as a result. I came to this conclusion solely based upon his remarks to me after our initial contact and his lack of being able to demonstrate any constructive commentary without ultimately referring to more post-pubescent antics. Nevertheless, I afford him the same due I would any other member as evidenced by my earlier attempt in this very same thread to offer advice in as best a way I know how.

Whether or not I agree with his personal lifestyle choices or whether he chooses to heed my advice or not is inconsequential. What DOES matter is when someone makes such remarks as to denigrate and disrespect an entire gender of a particular society without considering the consequences of such an attitude. Perhaps for some they don't find such a mentality to be offensive. I for one do, and will ALWAYS voice my opinion when such comments are made regardless of whether others agree with me or not.

The fact that there seemingly exists no shortage of young and willing girls that gravitate towards him (as he claims) is also immaterial. Again, the issue is not of "who is using who" rather the fact that his attitude towards women in general illustrates an absolutely non-existant level of maturity that I find appalling. To think that one's sole preoccupation in life revolves around such frivolous pursuits is actually rather sad... When all is said and done, each and every one of us define who we are by our actions. I for one would like to think I am more than just the sum of my parts and not solely represented by my libido. Hopefully, someday Josh will come to this realization for himself...

The owner/creator of Hook-Ups Skateboards that has been around since I was in the sixth grade-ish , like way back in 1994, now they co- up with Birdhouse Skateboards owned by Tony Hawk and Jeremy Klein is also on Birdhouse professional team, his photo gallery for Birdhouse is at http://www.birdhouseskateboards.com/jeremy_gallery.html, and yes that is the infamous Kobe Tai feeding him slim jims in his hot-tub over-looking a huge oil-paint rendition of himself, as you can tell he is pretty much my clone.

In one of his Transworld Media interviews, he seems to mirror everything that represents me, for instance.

Well, there is something to say for this kind of lifestyle. Especially when you're just 20. You can always settle down and get a life when you're older. Once you settle down, you'll probably never be able to get back to that lifestyle, so you might as well take advantage of that.

A friend of mine is always complaining about this actually. He says: "Why can't i just walk up to a woman and ask her if she wants to have sex. No strings attached.
People always react upset and shocked when you propose something like that, while a simple yes or no would suffice."

He thinks people make life way too complicated for their own good. People can have so much more fun with eachother, if they would just drop all those (moral) barriers in their head.

Yea' I will just enjoy my youth and when the time comes around I'll get married, have kids and raise a family with never any thoughts of cheating on my wife, leaving my children or any of that sort of thing because I would have already done it so much already (lying, cheating, womanizing) that it'd be out of my 'system',,

I am not really defending Josh here. He is a by-product of the so-call (South) Californian life-style (if not American, or simply Western), which emphasize the importance of sex and money. And for this, he couldn't find a better market than Japan. The contrasting difference is that Japanese are ways more respectful and altruistic (and care about food ). Probably due to a difference in culture and testosterone levels, but the values are basically the same.

I am not appalled any more by Josh for I've got use to his way of expressing himself. Josh is immature and a womanizer, but I believe that he represents the majority of people of his age rather than being an exception. If he needs to boast about it, it's justly because he needs recogniton because deep inside him he is utterly lonely or at a loss (but he won't admit it, for he would lose face, what would make it even worse).

Like Twisted says, Western societies are so hypocritical and complicated about sex. Japanese are much more relaxed about it. There are perfectly normal Japanese people who'd ask a girl in the street "asobitai ?" (do you wanna play ? = do you want to f:ck ?) and some girls are not ashamed to accept. My concern rather goes for the lack of judgement of so many Japanese people, who freely have sex with several partners at the same time without protection. If there weren't deadly STD's, that shouldn't be a major problem, but AIDS might devastate Japan like it's already done in South-East Asia for other reasons. But as long as these play-boys and play-girls are unattached (so don't risk to hurt their partner's feelings by cheating on them) and they are careful, that's fine.

If Josh is so shocking and disrespectful, it's more probably because he is trying to attract people's attention. That's always the case with people who need to show off. I'm sure he could change if the circumsatnces allow it. Unlike you, Iron Chef, I don't think it's abnormal to be in Josh's situation at the age of 20. That would be if he were 30 or more, though. Time will teach him to respect other people once he'll feel all alone and won't be able to get chicks so quickly anymore. But I doubt that will happen before 5 to 10 years.

Look at me, look at me, woah...wait a second... someone can actual figure me out?! that's a first, I hateeeeeee to admit it but yeah i'm playing this role to get attention and to build up a reputation (even if it's a bad one,,) and yes I play this role outside of message boards too, people(s) jaws usually drop when I refer girls to b*tches and h*es and/or when I bluntly describe how I used different girls during the past and present week.

Just so I'm clear on a few things:

First of all, the question posed by the original poster was as follows:

Suffice to say then that you are inferring Josh is indicative of his generation? If that is truly the case, then we are in a sorry state indeed. Is this the kind of message we really want to convey? As I have already stated, I find his initial remarks to be outright slanderous and borderline prejudicial and don't really see how it can be interpreted as anything else. Considering the following:

1) The original question was posed by a Japanese member who happened to be female and was curious about the impressions of others.

2) This is a J-related site designed as a meeting place for a friendly discussion.

3) Many of our members are Japanese.

How could anyone NOT take offence? I find it somewhat disheartening that my fellow Advisors do not feel the same way: Issues of different cultural approaches to sexuality is not the topic at hand--and should not be used as a scapegoat for inexcusable behavior. Again, I am not interested in the lifestyle Josh assumes for himself窶琶n fact, I really could care less. He can continue to bluster about his personal antics re: this girl and that girl as much as he likes, that's not the issue.

When you cross the line though and make a very damaging comment against the very people this site was designed within the mind, then how exactly are our Japanese members supposed to interpret such inflammatory dialogue? The fact remains that what was said was WRONG and offensive no matter how you look at it, and he should apologize for it. If you guys see nothing wrong with this whole episode and simply think of me overstepping my boundaries then perhaps this "little community" of ours is not quite what it's cracked up to be! At what point do you draw the line?

I apologize but you have to know that everywhere you go there will be someone like me. Ghettocities has shown me actually how many there are of us through peoples responses to my site telling me they feel the same way, share my views, my thoughts and how I go about doing things. Also the webmaster of japanreference.com is doing everything right and so am I, where as I censor out any language and on topics otherwise post my feedback, so in all, freedom of speech buddy and don't think that one japanese girl on a message board knowing how some of us honestly think is going to ruin your chances of ever finding a date, relax and in the meantime I'll clean up my act IF the webmaster asks me to, I respect this site.

If there's anything i've learned by using the internet, it's that there are many kinds of people. Not all of them follow the same set of rules that "us regular people" have been brought up with.
So i don't think it's right to condemn people, just because they live by a different set of rules then i do. I wouldn't follow those rules myself, but that doesn't mean they have no place in this world.

Of course, Josh's remark about Japanese women is somewhat blunt, but as anyone can see, he's generalizing. If there's one thing we all agree on, on this board, it's that generalizing is just dumb and makes you look stupid.

Indeed we wondered off topic, but it turned out to be quite an interesting discussion, so i don't see any problem with that.

Which leaves me with a pointing finger to Josh:
If you just reply to a topic to attract attention to yourself, instead of making any constructive remarks, then please refrain from doing that.
We would rather have it that you start your own topic in the chit-chat section.
 
*Sigh* I think we pretty much both know where everyone stands on this issue. I'm going to close this thread it before more mud-slinging ensues for the benefit of our other members but if one of the other Advisors wants to re-open it, be my guest.

Anyhow, those of you who've read the "Marquis de Sade" know exactly how libertine people like to be extremely provocative and treat human beings with complete disregard, like Josh.

I don't know if it's because Twisted and me come from the same part of the world, but I don't feel so offended by Josh because I understand what kind of person he is, and that suffices to relativise it all.

I comprehend very well (****, as it's started, Josh is going to need the bloody thesaurus again ) that our Japanese (female) guests may be offended, but it's justly a excellent opportunity for them to come to realise that there are people like that, and thus be cautious when they meet some young Californian skateboarder that is trying to look cool.

No need to play the ostrich ; anyway, there are loads of forums where virtually all the people talk about J-girls like Josh. Just check these out :

Young Dudes Guide to Japan (at least the author has the merit of being humorous, but have a look at the forum down there)
