Japan Photos 2026

The only one of these I've ever seen--noticed the "Y" on the plate (SOFA), then started comprehending what it was:

Wow, even used the are almost triple of what our Honda cost new!
 
Two views of some onions.





Two views of a drying shed--and while this may look like a roadside stand, it's not. Some heads of garlic are bigger than the onions.





Not sure what the deal is with this mannequin--it's close to the road so not in a 'scarecrow' location.



Also, turning around from that I caught this creature.

anaguma (Japanese badger) it looks like. They're supposed to be nocturnal. Perhaps he didn't get the memo.

I encountered one of them while cycling along a deserted rindō. The fellow seemed just as surprised as I was, but he wouldn't budge an inch. I think they are diurnal, too.

Sure--if someone's around I say hi and ask/explain that I 'just' want a picture or two. Response is usually okay, sometimes hesitantly okay. Occasionally an adamant no, or a "sure, and do you want some onions/flowers, to take, too?" Similar with the garage/tool shots I take, if someone's around I ask and try to talk it up. (But I've never been offered a free garden tool to take home...)
 
Here's one that I hadn't been interested in (not the dramatic effect that I was going for then), that I suppose is okay.

 
And some sagi. Nesting is almost done, the ones with yellow tops are the juveniles. I don't have a long enough lens for this location, so these are some pretty narrow crops of the telephoto-ist one I have.







And these guys running weedeaters just to the right. I hope they move slow enough so as not to interfere with the birds/nesting.

 
Amazing imagery! I've often wondered whether these guys pay any attention to wildlife. Along the Tama River, there are many bush warbler nesting sites. Their nests are intricate little works of art, delicately stitched together from strands of grass. I often wonder how many of those nests fall victim to weed trimmers.
 
This group, or whatever a flock of Ao-sagi are called, has been chased around in years past. At one point they nested maybe 2-300 meters upriver from here. And it was on the near/close side, so maybe a quarter of the distance. Then that area got cut, and they moved to the side opposite for a while. Same thing there, and they moved here a few years ago--and this area is pretty nice, since it's where a smaller stream joins the river. Hard for anyone to get to and disrupt, or worry about cutting things back. Hopefully, the young ones will be big enough and able to leave if the brush clearing gets that far.

Not sure it'll come thru, but if I drop a pin on it, here. I was taking these from the other side, a cycle path runs along the opposite side from where the pin is.
 
Great perspective! Looks like you walked through a forest of giant plants.
