Japan Photos 2026

21st century (odd name, everyone agrees with that). There's a combined exhibit of local stuff there and at the 県立美術館 thru today (same ticket good for both). I went to the other place last week since that's where the photos were, and, since I had the time this morning (and the ticket!) tried this part this morning. (Too much calligraphy, too, but I skipped those rooms.)

Azaleas (ツツジ tsutsuji) are starting to bloom at Togaku-in (東学院). Local tourists are pouring in, and I will add more pics once they reach full bloom. Our favourite inu sampou route.

This morning.

It's a little unusual to see these (or other stuff) without black plastic in between.

These are this phase of higanbana--these leaves come up thick in the spring, feeding the bulb/part that's underground. And then the leaves die away. And in later Sept, blooms shoot up.

And of course...

Met up with someone this morning, and they had a DVD to give me--and wanted to show/preview a little of it first. So they pulled this out to do that.

After watching a little (to be polite), I asked about it and they said it was about 15yrs old--tho I would've guessed a little more.

That's so cool! Still available used at Amazon Japan:

I can fax you the specs.

Behind this at a stoplight this morning--Audi Coupe S, lefthand drive. (I removed the plate.) This didn't sound at all special, so probably the smaller original engine.

I remember them from my childhood. Sexy beast, but the colour looks weird.

A few other oddities--an old place and then a detail of one section:

Edit: or this version?

This one is almost in my neighborhood--a 'kura' on the right.

Another for my library of these:

A few days ago, I'm expecting a new, full spread of flowers come May 1st:

Today was Children's Day! Koi-no-bori at Asagawa in Hachioji.

Sagami River.

The "Red Chilli Pepper" is a landmark known to all local cyclists.

Holidays  Golden Week

Golden Week (ゴールデンウィーク, Gōruden Wīku, often abbreviated "GW") is - along with o-bon in August and ō-shōgatsu (the New Year festivities) - one of the ōgata renkyū (大型連休), the three long vacation periods observed in Japan. It comprises a series of public holidays (see below). Many employees take...

Another.

tedorigawa/手取川 from a bridge (and too bright/sunny for this to look best).

This is not far from the river, what might be called a "barn find" in the US.
