Japan Golden Age Of Cinema, 1950 till 1959/1969

Just a list I have. Their are many more. Many are n-o-t available on DVD or very expensive (40 -55 dollars each)

Is the "Golden Age "1950-1959" or "1950-1969" ?

When did "Pink Films" and "Roman Porno" take over ?

A sample of the "Golden Age Of Japanese Movies

- -> Tokyo Story (Yasujiro Ozu, 1953)

-- > Sansho the Bailiff (Mizoguchi, 1954)

--> The Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa, 1954)

- -> Gate Of Flesh (Director: Seijun Suzuki, 1964)
(not sexploitation, this is a very very very good movie !!.)

- -> Diary of Oharu (Saikaku ichidai onna, Kenji Mizoguchi 1952)

- -> When a Woman Ascends the Stairs (Onna ga kaidan wo agaru toki, Mikio Naruse, 1960)

- -> Japanese Tragedy (Nihon no higeki, Keisuke Kinoshita, 1953)

Outside of this era, but mentioned anyway

-> Sisters of the Gion (Gion no shimai 1936, Kenji Mizoguchi)
(Very good movie, but not great. My opionon)

- -> The Sea Is Watching (Umi wa miteita, Akira Kurosawa 2002)
(very very good movie, 2002)

I've watched a goodly number of Toshiro Mifune samurai movies from that time period, and they were fabulous! Ditto for the early Zatoichi movies which I've come to enjoy a great deal!
