Is this sentence right?

It's supposed to say: "The boy's name was Tsukou, and the girl's name was Kyaka.

Boui no namae wa Tsukou deshita ga, gaari no namae wa Kyaka deshita.

If it's wrong, please correct me, or I could just say it like this:

Boui no namae wa Tsukou deshita. Gaari no namae wa Kyaka deshita.

as:

The boy's name was Tsukou. The girl's name was Kyaka.

those names are... creative.

bo-i means porter (like at a hotel), and gyaru is more like bimbo. Gaari sounds like gari, which means pickled ginger. Perhaps you should use otoko no ko and onna no ko. Your second try is grammatically ok.

英語の「boy」は日本語の「ぼうや」か「しょうねん」当たるんでしょう。そして「girl」は「しょうじょ」です、まあと思います。

I'd say 「男の子の名前はつこうで女の子の名前はかやかでした。」 = otoko no ko no namae wa tsukou de onna no ko no namae wa kayaka deshita

The 'de' in this case means something like 'and', and the final 'deshita' puts the whole sentence in the past tense.

More advanced students out there, would these also be acceptable?...
男の子は名前がはつこうで女の子はかやかでした。
or
男の子の名前はつこうで女の子のはかやかでした。

lol, i couldnt think of any names, so i just made up random things...

wait, so is this the sentence?:

Otoko no ko no namae wa Tsukou deshita ga, onna no ko no namae wa Kyaka deshita.
---
But from looking at other ppls, is it:

Otoko no ko no namae wa Tsukou (is it "de" or "ga"), onna no ko no namae wa Kyaka deshita.

I'm confused...also, j/w, what does "otoko no ko" and "onna no ko" mean litterally?

で is the ~te form of です.

one use of the ~te form is that it can be used to combine two small clauses to make a compound sentence. In this case,

Japanese
男の子の名前はツコウで、女の子の名前はキャカでした。
Romaji
otoko no ko no namae ha tsukou de, onna no ko no namae ha kyaka deshita.
English
The boy's name was tsukou, and the girl's name was kyaka.

The use of "deshita ga" would be like "however," or "but." It is used to combine clauses but not the same way as "and."

男 (otoko) means man, 女 (onna) means woman, and 子 (ko) means child. so 男の子 is boy and 女の子 is girl.

if you have any good grammar books or websites you use for reference, look up the ~te (～て) form; I'm sure they'll explain it better than I. There are many uses for this form, this is only one of them.
