Is this right?

Well I'm still trying to learn more Japanese. I haven't been studying recently but I found this sentence and I thought I'd give it a crack at figuring it out.

あなたのライブのカテゴリを選択してください
please choose your live category

anata (you) + no (possessive particle) = Your

ライブのカテゴリ
live category (can someone explain why the possessive particle "no" is in this part of the sentence? It doesn't seem to be acting as a possessive particle in this instance.)

But the real part that I don't understand yet is the verb ~選択して

選択 means choose

what does adding ~shite do to it though? And kudasai is for politeness I think.

I have no idea what a live category is, but live is modifying category in the same way that live modifies the word show in 'They performed a live show in front of 300 people. (noun acting as an adjective, noun possessing something) の (other noun).

せんたく is a noun meaning choice, selection etc. 選択する（せんたくする） is the verb form that means to choose. Sentaku, like other words that entered Japanese from chinese, because a verb when suru is added. To say 'please do something' in a normal, polite enough form (there are many ways to say this kind of thing besides this one), you put whatever verb you are using in the ~て form and add ください. noun + suru type verbs are conjugated by conjugating suru, which in this case changes into 'して' to form the て form. You then add ください and you arrive at what was said.

To recap=

anata no = your
raibu no kategori= live category
sentaku suru = to choose
sentaku shite kudasai = please choose

So, please choose your live category.

Thanks Charles Barkley. Learning japanese seems a lot harder for me because I'm not good with the subject of english. In fact I was in special ed english. Is it possible you can explain it in another way?

Let's put it this way:

選択 is a noun that means "choice" (not choose).
選択して is a verb that means "choose"

して is another form of the verb する. して and する are almost the same.
ice is another form of liquid (water). liquid and ice are almost the same.
Hitler is another form of Satan. Satan and Hitler are almost the same.

So you're saying that して is like liquid, which is like satan, and therefore sentaku = hitler? No wonder the guy was confused...

ライブ here means a "live performance" such as a band performance, right? Maybe catergory refers to the music genre? Without those sort of details, the text is almost meaningless, though.

Is this right?
