Is The iPhone Worth It?

Now, I'm as huge a gadget freak as they come, I have an HDTV, an iPod, upscale DVD player, a digital SLR camera, a fancy cell phone and more, but there's no way in hell I would shell out $500 or $600 for an iPhone----and I'm an Apple devotee! And to think those prices are BEFORE adding the cost of a wireless plan with AT&T! In other words, no way, Jose! Hard to believe people from coast to coast waited in line for hours, evven days to get theri hands on one of those things, including the mayor of my hometown of Philly! Sorry, but that gadget's definitely NOT for me! What do you think, folks?

I think the iphone looks really cool, and its exciting to see functionality and technology being so deftly placed together, but I don't have $600 to spend anytime soon!

Having no less than a dozen mobile phones between us, all of which still work perfectly, me and the wife dont really need a new phone, even if it can do this, can do that and even boil a kettle for you.

We are quite happy with the phones we have and the networks we both use

Heh! You remind me of me. My cell phone is about three years old, and the only reason I bought it in the first place was as insurance after my land line at home went out during a violent summer storm. I keep it with me when I'm driving, but even then, I rarely remember to turn it on, so I don't need anything as fancy as the iPhone.

well maybe is the iphone worth of it but i think this is again pure profit to fill the pockets of Apple, i myself would never buyed it , but yeah everyone is different and i respect their opinion, but i think it will bring more disaster then it would do his job. indeed just wait in the future it will work better!

Besides from music playing, my $20 dollar phone from Japan does 98% of what the iPhone does (and things the iPhone doesn't!)... still the iPhone looks sexy... I'll wait a year or two until they come out with newer cheaper iterations (much like the Nano)....

But even if that hadn't happened, I'd wait until a newer/cheaper version of the iPhone came out. I'll save that extra $500 for something worthwhile. Like a new DVD player or two...

Since the iphone costs $500-$600 dollars, it just made me wonder who Apple wants to buy this phone. My guess would be people with a lot of money. You can do a lot with it, including checking your stocks and other investments. If it can do all of that, I don't think it should called a phone.

At $5-$600 per phone and a cost of $3,000 (including phone) for a 2 yr plan you can take it and stick it where the sun don't shine.

If I am so addicted that I need to access movies and the internet from my phone and my e-mail 20 times/day and can't wait till I get home then I seriously need some help.

Seriously, this is getting so ridiculous in that people need to be connected 24/7/365. When I recently returned from Japan and as soon as we got off the plane all the businessmen/women were pulling out their blackberrys to check their e-mail or call their office I was thankful that I gave up the corporate life. I couldn't stand being chained to my office 24h/day. It was bad enough when I had to call in once/day, but this is beyond anything I could personally take.

When I was in HS and college we were always told that, "technology will make life easier and that people will probably be working 4 days/week", etc.

The way I see it is that people are more a slave to technology than ever before. As for myself I have the latest computer, DVR, camera and MP3 player, etc, but I won't, and refuse to, let them control my life to the point that I feel uneasy if I cannot check my e-mail or go on line or "be connected".

Some people these days feel they have to be "connected" 24/7/365 and feel uneasy if they aren't. Not for me and I often turn my phone off on weekends or when I don't want to be bothered. If it's that important they'll get in touch with me and I don't need to know this moment!
But if it's for you then go for it as you probably don't know what it was like before the "ball and chain" of technology.

Personally, I enjoy my freedom and only have a cell phone for emergencies. I can access the internet, but don't. I can text message, but don't, I can take pictures, but don't. I actually still have my original plan of $29.95/month for unlimited nites and weekends and 300 anytime minutes. That is more than enough for me and I never use up my 300 anytime minutes and, since I work at nite I can talk to all my friends for free.

I-Phone? Not anywhere even remotely in my future. But it does look pretty cool

Fill the pockets of Apple? It's a multi-touch screen phone, music player, wide screen video player, and you can browse the internet on it comfortably. That's saying alot for something that stands at only 4.5 inches(115 mm). I think the best thing about Apple is that they don't release products of poor quality..

Yukio, yeah theres been talk of a cheaper i-phone based on the Nano, it's mine. But i'm happy with my phone it has a built in mp3 with a good memory, I do love my music.

iPhone well I would advise against that, rather hackable. Well most mobile phones today are hackable but most use some security encryption to help stop people creating good ol "gremlins" or other lovely programs that will help your number appear on every porn-call line in the world.

The problem is the iPhone lacks security on the same level as a Vista machine with all security settings turned off. I think theres already reports kicking about in newspapers and forums about the problems already occuring.

So even if you have a few thousand to spare I would wait untill a safer firmware is released.

It's worth it all the way! It's just so cool. It's perhaps a little "clumsy" as a phone, but if you want a great screen you have to sacrifice a little. Anyway, I don't talk a lot on it, mainly text msgs. I really love the map/navigation feature as I am usually lost. I am bringing it to Japan tomorrow because my friends are desperate to see it! For once I'll have a cool cell phone in Japan although it won't work there.
