Are you kidding ? Almost all the public signs in Japan are bilingual Japanese-English :

It's easy to miss that stuff when you're a Japanese speaker. Even in Toyko, compared to other tourists cities, it's not very user-friendly if you don't know the language. It's liveable, but can be like pulling teeth.

Actually, most of the public signs on the roadways are not bilingual Japanese-English. It just looks that way because many of them do not apply to automobile drivers and/or may be ignored with no serious adverse effect on your travel.

maybe ive been walking around with my eyes closed, well, no that's not it
but anyway I'll keep a look out and get back to you, i dont eat at hamburger restaurants very often
and maybe because ive never been offered an english menu i assumed there were none (errononeously?)
anyway go japan!

The very first time I came to Japan, I knew virtually no Japanese, and I don't remember seeing much English. Ditto for the 2nd time. BTW that was 9 years ago. Now I speak and read Japanese a lot better, and I notice the English much more.
I wonder if the actual amount of English has increased, or if you just notice it more a) the longer you stay or b) the more Japanese you know.
Any thoughts?
