Interesting Comments on Japanese Ceramics

I came across a short and interesting thread on Japanese ceramics (January 2006), and one Americans love of this very advanced art form, which I totally agree to its beauty.

Cool! The pottery is such an interesting art, and I always wanted to try.

I especially like Joumon style; it has very strange and unique pattern. I think, however, it is odd that the Japanese praise and give high ratings to some of those that are mis-shaped or rather ugly looking.

It must have something to do with their weird fascination about beauty.

two years ago, my town visited traveling exhibition of japanese traditional pottery, but made by modern potters. unfortunately, I don't have picutres of that event.

With these incredible Japanese ceramic skills, I can only guess that blown glass is also an art form in Japan, and can you direct me in any of those examples?

What I am seeing is almost an ancient skill in metallurgy, ceramics, glass, stone cutting, not known today, or very rare.

With my limited knowledge in this area, and the evolution of art and art forms, to me it proves that the ancients could also think in the abstract, but why should I be surprised?

PS...Americans LOVE asian artifacts and pieces like you have shown, to purchase. Are there any on-line sellers of these Asian pieces for americans to view and to buy? I might try and resell them, there is such a huge market for these exquisite treasures, modern made and certainly ancient made.
