IB and Global 30

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in my last year of Sixth Form studying at a British school in Singapore. I've been doing the IB program but I'm looking at applying to some Japanese universities to do a Liberal Arts course. I'm going to Tokyo and Kyoto next month during my half term to take a look at the actual universities, but I'm just wondering what is exactly needed for the application?
Obviously I haven't done my final exams yet but I have my predicted grades and I'm being predicted around 36-37 total IB points. Can I apply with those or will I have to take my final exams first? Much help would be appreciated : )

Also just as a side point, I don't think I will be applying for the MEXT scholarship because I have only been self-studying Japanese for almost a year now and through my research, the social studies section of the MEXT application requires a Japanese examination.

Hello there,

I'm kind of in the same situation as you except I'm in a local Junior College and studying for the A levels. I'm not too sure how the IB system functions, but are you intending to apply for university entry in 2013? I'm also considering Liberal Arts courses in Japan, so I'm interested to know more people thinking of the same decision. Which universities are you considering? Similarly, I won't be applying for MEXT since I have only self-studied Japanese (am planning to apply for the Global 30 English courses) and anyway, the application is already over so...

I would appreciate some help from other members of the forum too!

Hi greenscrunchie!

I emailed the Uni's already and I'm able to apply with predicted grades save one which was Meiji

The main ones I'm looking to apply to are Waseda, Sophia, Josei, and Doushisha for entry in September 2013

I'll still consider Meiji but I'd have to apply for April 2014 then and that's not a Liberal Arts course. From other research you can also do the EJU but it's not needed fully for aplacation to the Uni's I'm applying to anyway.

I'm going to visit the Uni's in two weeks so will post more information then
