How are Japanese schools different from American schools?

Also you are making an assumption that all American HS are 4 years. That is not the case. Some US (public) school districts also have the 6-3-3 system in place the same as the Japanese system.

I never said all American HS. I said "generally", which also means usually. I know there are some American High Schools that have three level years

I've heard kids may stay at school until 6 to stay at clubs. That's a lot. I get to school at 8 am and stay there and finish clubs until 2.30pm.

Most HS schools in California have shifted to 4 years... Colleges-- especially the CSU and UC systems recognize 9th grade as the first year of high school and include it in your cumulative GPA.

At our school we do have an activities week for Seniors and we have a kind of carnival/celebration day after our California Standards Test called The Post Test Success Fest.

There seems to be people on campus all the time... well after dark. I am taking the debate team to Stanford next weekend.

Are there any diplomas awarded after graduating from a Japanese HS? If so, are they worth anything in Japan; how much are they worth compared to American HS diploma? (Or, for that matter, how much worth are they compared to the British A-Levels, the French Bac, or the German Abitur?)
