I'm new to this community and I by next Feb we are moving in Sasebo and I just want to know if somebody knows how much is the car insurance there in Japan? We are going to stay there for 3 yrs bec my husband will be transferred and we don't know if we need to bring our car or just buy or rent there in Japan. I Think You Will Do Better To Get Info From The Navy Base There?

Most members here are civilians and quite often things are different for military people depending on wheather they live on base or off. I think if you GOOGLE it, you can find a web site for Sasebo's Navy base. There should be a website for the base that can give you all the info you need to know.
I spent just 1 day there on base visiting back in 1970. The weather there isn't bad and there are a lot of nice places to visit on the southern island of Kyushu . I was on a Navy base northeast of there called Hakata base, closed now. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum cherryl san !! I hope all goes well with your move. I have had a car for a long time here and at my age, and with my policy type, pay about 4800 yen a month--but you have to keep in mind I've been here for almost 21 years now, so for someone just coming in, wow, it may be rather steep. Check out what Frank suggested.

My father was at Sasebo, and just happened to be on guard duty when I popped in the universe back in San Diego. Some one had brought him a cigar, which is how he learned of the news.
