While I find it honorable that people have an interest in the art of Kendo, I just know that there will be many amelikans that are going to go buy a kendo bamboo stick or a "real" reproduction samurai-style sword and think they are Miyamoto Musashi after their first lesson....kind of like all the Bruce Lee wannabes were like after watching their first Bruce Lee movie back in the '70's....

I just know it's going to be the trend, especially with Zatoichi coming out this summer....and maybe Azumi later....along with the Twilight Samurai and others

I think it's good for ppl to learn other cultures and are interested in it....but some ppl see it as RAPING the "OWN CULTURAL THINGS", and think it should only be for Japanese ppl :? ....well I don't think that is a realistic thing

To tell the truth, I had never really paid attention to Kendo until the last 2 years. I had seen the shinai before and had even seen people spar, but never really thought much of it. Then I saw a competition 2 years ago, and was truly impressed! My wife and I put my two boys in a dojo, and it has done wonders for their self confidence. I'm looking forward to starting my studies soon.

I have to agree that many people are easily drawn in by what they see in movies. Look at the martial arts craze of the 70's...then again in the 80's after "The Karate Kid". I mean didn't everyone want to be Ralph Macchio? We, as a society, are very impressionable. I just hope that young punks don't begin carrying these weapons and using them on defenseless people!
