Hello-

I was wondering if anybody here can translate these names for me. I am doing family history research and these names came up in my ancestor's koseki record that I couldn't recognize. I tried to search for the kanji by radicals, but since these are handwritten, it is really difficult.

1.

Ends in 江.

2.

Ends in 子.

3.

Ends in 男.

4.

Ends in 子.

5.

6.

Ends in 美.

7.

Ends in 子.

8.

Ends in 恵.

You can't be sure how these kanjis are read, because people names are read differently by each person. How they are read becomes official in the family registry.

１．澄江
Common reading: Sumie
２．敏子
Commonly: Toshiko
３．康男
Commonly: Yasuo
４．裕子
Commonly: Yuuko or Hiroko
５．斎ー＞斉
Older kanji, frequently replaced by the latter today
６．常美
Tsunemi (this is strictly a guess)
７．攝子
Setsuko (this is a guess, too)
８．雪恵
Commonly: Yukie

Whoa, amazing, must be ownage to know and work with out of use "anachronistic" kanji.

Family members who have been removed from the registry (due to death, marriage into another family, split from the family to set up one's own registry at a new location, etc.) are crossed out but deliberately shown clearly legible to show past history.

I think this process will be replaced totally with a new one with computerization.
