I was at the bookstore last January and read a Japanese verb learning book unlike any other I've ever seen. Rather than having small, boring textbook font with cut-throat dry information that made you squint your eyes and want to quickly close the book, every lesson [verb] in this book was accompanied by a personal anecdote from the author; it felt like reading a narrative/informative conversation which made it both easy to learn and refreshing to read. Every verb was also accompanied by it's corresponding Kanji and there may have been pictures as well.
For example, one of the first verbs I stumbled across was "abiru." There was a simple breakdown of the definition/usages of the verb, and followed by it the author shared a story about how his/her native Japanese friends' English learning had affected their Japanese speaking. Because they learned Americans say "take a shower", they began to subconsciously use the Japanese verb for "take" rather than appropriate verb "abiru." This unique approach made every lesson fun, memorable and enjoyable.
At the time I didn't want to spend the money right away and naively thinking it was always going to be there next time, foolishly I did not jot down the title of the book or the author. Something I heavily regret....
