help for a new comer

hello everyone. im relatively new to discovering jpop that isnt an anime theme song and wanted to find out what jpop artists are worth listening to. please post your thoughts

You should check around the J-Pop Forum here, since this topic comes up again and again... so there are already some great recommendations out there. For example, there's a thread titled "J-Pop Music..." that's still on the front page with this one where someone asks for recommendations of music to listen to...

But if I were to make a suggestion here, it would be this... the safest place to start would be the groups with whom you're familiar. A lot of the anime theme music these days are done by popular J-Pop artists... in fact, in some cases an anime will just use an already-released single by a popular group. Rurouni Kenshin and Inuyasha are two great examples of this... so find out which groups/singers are performing your favorite anime theme songs, and then start checking out their singles/albums. I used to listen exclusively to anime soundtracks, and I noticed a group called L'arc~en~ciel performed one of my favorites ("Blurry Eyes" from DNA^2)... so I bought their album "True" as an experiment, and I loved it!

I've been a huge J-Pop fan ever since... it's worth a try!

• SMAP:This is one of the most popular jpop bands in Japan. They have their own TV show. You may visit the following link and download some video clips. Frankly, I haven't listened to any of their music, but you can discover why they are so popular in Japan

You can type Jpop in any search engine like Yahoo! and you would receive a rich directory of both jpop and jrock singers..

Hope this would help .. .. Personally, I like Malice Mizre, Gackt, Hyde, Dir En Grey.. Those are Rock singers.. Anyway, Tell me if you need anything more like suggestions for downloading mp3 files if you wanna listen.. :joyful:

Damn straight, that album rocks!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the first song on that album - Fare Well.

daaaaamn man! its a good thing you found out about Jpop/rock. i prefer JROCK from Jpop...but .Jpop is o-k. and i know alot about it!
if your looking for JROCK-i suggest you look up the band Dir en grey,or for more gothic,Moi dix Mois.
but for a start! Dir en grey is most shurly a great band!! so is Psycho le cemu!! try them out..
Jrock is usually "always" men..its rare to see a JROCK woman/girl. the only Jrock girl i know of is Kana. but i think she is strange.
ok-to prepare you-when you see most Jrockers or visual kei...-ers w/e...you will think they are..well.. women!~ ok i said it!
[to ME they all look like men .now that i know and can tell a japanese woman appart from a man] lol-but i think they are all sexy as hell!!
but i compleatly think you should look around at Dir en grey! they are very famouse in japan and also america! and their music is very good! and different from others~ and they are ALL sexy!

i'll hint ya in..more and more jrock bands are starting to go to local anime con's...finding out how many fans they got here...i just got home from a Psycho le cemu concert..in Dallas Tx. at Akon15..it was the BEST ever.and the band said they were so happy and suprised to see how many fans they have in america!! and i went backstage with the band and got a **** load of free stuff!! yey! then they said they will come back! i got to touch them tooo ::

AngelMarionette: I must contest your statement of "jrock" always being men. You must have "jrock" confused with "visual kei"? Visual kei can be jrock, jrock cannot always be visual kei.
