Hello - I came here to get started on my adventure of learning Japanese but I do have a question...

My [main] motivation to learn Japanese was that I could play a video game that was only in Japanese and the company apparently was not going to release it in English. Is that a bad motivation? :/

There is no such thing as a bad motivation!
If that's what keeps you going, then that's fine!!
Studying a language needs a lot of motivation and discipline! If you have something in your mind that you want so badly, it will definitely help you to see it through till the end!
