Has anyone noticed the slow connection speed on jref?

Does anyone of you experience the same problem? or is it just me?

No it's not you. I also have noticed a severe slowdown in the opening of pages and signing on. I thought it was me so I cleaned up my cache, temp files and such, but to no avail. It is still slow and it seems it is only JRef. Often it takes more than 10 sec to 1 min to open up a page.

Yes, it is slow. . . and yes, there is a reason for that. It seems that our friend, Godzilla, actually tripped and fell over some transmission towers while he was rehearsing for his new release to come out in '10. Now, it just so happened that those towers were very important for connecting us all together through JREF...so....

I'll let Admin JP fill us in on the other details of that sad, but to be expected accident...I've heard that he (Admin JP) is working hard behind the scenes to see if we can get those folks to move Godzilla's shoot location a little to the north.

In the meantime, for what it may be worth, I offer my understanding and concerns, and my heart goes out to all those who wait. . . as, most sadly, we all do sometimes these days. Admin JP will be here soon enough. MM

Thanks for the update MM. Much appreciated!

I also cleaned up my browser...but to no avail.
Thank you, it got much better now.... I hope.

For the past couple of weeks our server has been the target of "dictionary email attacks". In such attacks spammers send thousands of email requests using all kinds of username combinations to a specific domain in order to harvest valid email accounts. That procedure consumes a lot of server resources given the fact that we sometimes receive a few dozens of such requests per minute. I have just tweaked the server and it seems that the new scanning device I have installed reduces the load significantly. We are now down to loads between 2 and 5, still high, but marginal compared to the loads of up to 150 we have lately experienced. Anyhow, I keep my fingers crossed...

I apologise for any inconvenience and thank our members for their patience and understanding.

As slow as this site has become, I know of other forum sites that are much slower. As the saying goes, "it could be worse."

Then that explains why I have been receiving alot of spam e-mail for viagra and other medications and drugs in my personal e-mail when in the past I have been completely free of them. Thx for the heads up. Seems like "they" will never stop trying to spam us. I hope they all rot in hell

You too? No wonder I noticed a surge in ED medication spam.

Interesting...this 'they' that are trying 'their' darndest to get us to buy things. I guess...only a guess...that I may have gotten some extra unwanted e-mail too. Luckily, perhaps, the university system does have a pretty up-to-date screening process which may have limited some. BUT I do reason that some came from sharing by a couple of the 'professional' memberships I have--only you can tell the difference, they usually sell books or research material rather than certain body part enhancer kits.

I hope they all rot in hell

Well, Pachipro san, I guess someone has just tried to mislead you. No, I'm afraid no one 'rots' in hell. Hell is where we live forever and do things like gamble, drink, chase naked women around, fuss and fight, and even just be darn lazy. Heaven is where we have to wear white robes with wings attached (which may be fun, I've always wanted to fly) but have to carry our harps around all the time (a bit heavy, you know) and sing songs. Now I guess that after a couple of million years, that may become a bit boring.

At any rate, yes, it seems much faster today, Admin JP san. Thanks a lot for all your hard work...OH...and were those producers agreeable to getting Godzilla move his movie location away from our towers?

Owh first i thought it was me, that the speed was slow (>.<) but thanks to Mars Man i see it was JREF.

Apparently these folks think that JREF is inhabited by men lacking starch in the sausage.

Yes it is much faster today. Thanks Admin. @MM LOL

So am I the only one who bought any viagra from them???? It was a hell of a deal, and her pleasure was assured!:smoke:

Viagra at 37?!

I must have gotten the long end of the unsolicited e-mail stick. I'm expecting millions in British lottery winnings and a large bank transfer from an African man aaaaany day now. *rubbing hands together*

Thanks to the admins for volunteering their time and keeping Jref afloat. This is one of the most feature-rich and well-maintained forums I've ever had the pleasure of posting on so a few days of slow-loading is a small price for me to pay.

Actually I assumed the server was located overseas and it was just naturally slow.

JREF!!

For about 4 hours today....................

I could not log on to JREF even through GOOGLE? Anyone else have trouble getting on today?

Uncle Frank

I had the same problem Uncle Frank. I couldn't get through using Google and it said that the web site could not be found....

Same here. I tried Google also. I figured the maintenance man (or woman) had it down for repairs.

Same here yesterday. After I was logged off "automatically" I could not log back on. Glad it is up and running again and the speed has returned. Thanks guys!

I tried Google this morning (about 10 min. ago) and I could not get in. Then I tried it again now and got in. It is acting funky.

Is there some special way of connecting through Google that I don't know about? If navigating directly to Forum list doesn't work, there's almost zero chance that Google will make any difference.

Nothing special about using Google. Some of us have other reasons for doing so.

I didn't experienced no lag today so i'm happy with the repair man. Thanks Admins!
