Actor Pat Morita Dies at 73

LOS ANGELES - Actor Pat Morita, whose portrayal of the wise and dry-witted Mr. Miyagi in "The Karate Kid" earned him an Oscar nomination, has died. He was 73.

Morita died Thursday at his home in Las Vegas of natural causes, said his wife of 12 years, Evelyn. She said in a statement that her husband, who first rose to fame with a role on "Happy Days," had "dedicated his entire life to acting and comedy."

I remember going to see Karate Kid in the movie theater when I was eight years old. It may sound funny, but it left a huge impression on me, and is still one of my favorite movies to this day.

Loved the Karate kid, and Mr. Miyagi was the ultimate mystical oriental sage.

I remember being awestruck when he clapped powerfully his hands together, rubbed them together with force and intention, and healed Danielsan's injured leg during the tournament. Saw a recent DVD going through the making of the Karate kid, and the makers thought, "hey, this is a movie, why not have Miyagi mystically heal Danielsans leg, anything is believable in a movie (paraphrased)".

Good bye Miyagi! May you enter the Buddhist heaven!

His enduring popularity is a testament to the man. Pat was a class act and will be sorely missed...

I saw Karate Kid when I was about 8 in the theatres too...

That is really sad. Mr Miyagi was pretty damned cool. "Wax on, Wax off"

The wife told me about this when I got home this evening.

Always loved his stuff ... he absolutely made the "Karate Kid" movies ... gave them credence.

He will be missed.

I was also young then when I first saw Pat on Karate Kid. I kept wait for the reruns you know. I guess most of us will remember him as Mr. Miyagi.

I admire his good sense of humor...
In an interview, when asked how much he knew of karate, he said: "Zilch, that's Japanese for nothing."

Goodbye Mr. Miyagi you will be remembered for a long time...

I first new Pat from the Karate Kid, my family and I used to watch the movies so much, Mr. Miyagi became a household name(and an inside joke for slavedrivers, "I'll do it, Mr. Miyagi") He will be missed.
