Going to Fuji Speedway in November for Super GT

I'm planning a trip from November 3-5 this year to attend the Super GT's final round at Fuji speedway.

I was wondering what the weather would be like around that period?

In addition, I'm planning to stay in Yokohama. How would I get to Fuji Speedway the most quickly from there?

I might just extend my trip so I might also want to visit Tokyo for a day. I understand Yokohama is about 30 minutes away from Tokyo by train. Is that correct?

It depends on where exactly in Yokohama from and where in Tokyo you'd like to go.
But approximately, Yokohama Sta. to Tokyo Sta. is 30 mins, and if you want to go to Shibuya or Shinjuku, it'll take you a little more, I think.

Which team are you rooting for?
Me, I'm a nismo guy.. But I still like them all.
Also, I am considering going to the event, but not sure yet if I will or not..
 
I'm rooting for Calsonic and Endless. Benoit Treluyer just got 3rd position in Round 4 in Malaysia.


Regarding the trip to JR Gotemba from JR Yokohama Station, and then the trip to Fuji Speedway from there by bus, is there any fare information around?
I'm worried the daily trips to FSW in the morning and then back to the hotel at night will add up.

How many days are you going to be at the speedway?
If its more than one I would get a place up near there for atleast one night of it.

Its been awhile since I was at FSW, I remember the train ride taking forever.
 
Now that's an idea. I had no idea there was accomodation near the circuit. Any details? I can't find any on their website.

1,450yen for JR, one way and 610yen for the bus.

Cool, I thought it was going to be a lot more expensive.

But is there accomodation near Fuji Speedway? If not, I'll have to wake up at 6 am in Yokohama to reach Fuji Speedway by 9 am.

Did you try the link Hiroyouki gave you above? It shows the "fast", "low price", "easy" ways and you'll find it very helpful, I believe.
And those are for one-way, not round tickets.

Well,...err, yes, there are several accomodations near the Gotemba Station. (but I'm not sure if there are any near Fuji Speedway.)

I googled it and most of the results were in Japanese, which I think it means the staff there may speak Japanese only. If you don't mind that, the one I found on the net is "Hotel Gotenbakan21" which is located right in front of JR Gotemba Station. http://gotemba.jp/gnavi/stay/29_21.html / http://www.gotenbakan.co.jp/acsses.html

And another one is "Gotemba Station Hotel"; it's 5 mins walk from Gotemba St.

There are other less expensive ones, but they are Ryokan(Japanese-style hotels)...

10 mins by taxi from Gotemba St.(should cost you around 1,200 yen for the taxi), no credit cards available for payment, the accomodation rate shown there is per person, not per room.

Alright, um, I think that you can only search for trains and subways there, but no buses.

When you scroll down the link below, there's a bus timetable for your info. (The link is about the same as the one Hiroyuki provided earlier, but this one here is in English.)

The bus bound for Chunichi(East Gate) could be a special shuttle bus that runs only when there's an event at the Fuji Speedway, because I couldn't find any other information anywhere. And the bus bound for Fuji Reien(West Gate) could be the regular local bus, but that doesn't run so often.
What's more, the first(earliest) bus leaves Gotemba at 9:30am as you can see it in the timetable, that means you can't make it by 9am...LOL

Well, if you want to try the other way, you can take train to JR Suruga Oyama (a couple of stops from JR Gotemba) and take the bus from there, but the first bus leaves at 8:50am, and it takes you about 20 mins to Fuji Reien, and another 10 mins walk to FS, which means you still cannot arrive by 9am.

I'm getting a little confused myself...^^;
That's probably why they suggest that you come by taxi as a first choice in the access map...? ^^;
But I do understand paying 3,500yen for 20min ride sounds outrageous while 610yen would do.

My friend in Japan has given me some advice.

"I answer you about Fuji speed way of a question.
This place is very far from Tokyo.
It is the quickest by train and takes 3 hours there.
Besides, there is many transfer of a train.
Even Japanese people are very troublesome.
The best is to use an expressway bus.
Because I do not understand it, I examine a rate later.
This can do a ride from the JR Shinjuku station west entrance in Tokyo.
It reaches Tomei Gotenba from there in about 100 minutes.
Then, get off the bus and go to the Fuji speedway by taxi.
The fee of the taxi is about 113 RM.
Time is about 20 minutes.
The problem is a hotel. All hotels nearby are already secured."

It's just like the info Hiroyuki provided, except this time a bus is recommended to get to Gotemba station, and then from there a 20 minute taxi ride is taken.

Because of this, it might be a better idea for me to stay around Gotemba station. I've searched the net for hotels in this area, but haven't found any. Is there a directory of hotels that I can use?

Rent a Van and stay overnight in the Van. :)

Actually, I'm going to Hakone this weekend and can tell you. I'm assuming it would be better but dont know for sure.
 
Has anyone stayed at these inns or campsites in the Fujiyoshida area? Would you recommend them as a good place to go to Fuji Speedway from?

I can't believe it... it's still months away, and I've tried 4 inns in this area and they're already fully booked for the November period.

Are there any other inns or hotels around Gotemba that are not listed on the internet?

Do you know if it's easy to get a taxicab from the Saiko Lake area to Fuji Speedway?

I'm so sorry to keep going on about this topic... but I need opinions again.

I have successfully booked a pension at the northern area of Lake Yamanaka.

However I have heard that the taxi from here to Fuji Speedway will cost around 60000 yen one-way. Multiply that by 3 days, and factor in return trips, and it adds up! I've also found out that there are no buses plying the same route.

Here's where I'm staying:



On the map, Gotenba appears further than Lake Yamanaka, but I understand the taxi fare doesn't cost as muuch. Is this because Yamanka is on an elevated area and that accounts for the hidden distance?

I've tried getting map details for the Yamanako-Fuji speedway route, and it looks like there are no through roads.



Would any of you still recommend staying at Yamanaka lake?

I have sent queries to some hotels in Numazu already and I'm waiting for their replies.

In the meantime, in case I can't get any hotel in Numazu, I found out that there is a fujikyu bus from Lake Yamanaka to Gotenba station.

I think it stops at the Asahigaoka 旭日丘 bus stop.

So this means I have to take the bus from Asahigaoka to Gotenba, and then a taxi from gotenba to Fuji Speedway. That should cost less than a taxi from Lake yamanaka to Fuji Speedway direct, I think.

Sorry if I'm rambing on.. I've never been to Japan before so I'm totally unfamiliar with the transport routes.
