I have one question to you all.. Do you notice any significant changes in the fan-base after the GazettE gave concerts in Europe?
So that you understand why I ask this question let me explain a bit what's going on in Russia recently..
After the GazettE's european tour a lot of people discussed concerts/band/members in local internet. All the blogs, j-rock sites, etc. were flooded with the GazettE's pictures, recent PVs, info.. As the result of such promotion the fan-base grew significantly. But unfortunatelly mainly by the very young girls (11-14 y.o. (O_o)'' ) who write "nya-nya-nya kawaii-kawaii rabu-rabu-rabu" under every picture of Gazemen and who is interested in their faces in the first place.. (I know that such kind of.. fans(?) always existed (incl. Japan) but the dashing growth of their amount really bothers me (>_>)'' ). In rare cases these fan-girls know Guren and even Stacked Rubbish but don't have much desire to listen to the GazettE's old songs. The worst thing for me is their often statements like "I'm tired of Tokio Hotel, so I'm not their fan any more. Now I like the GazettE.. " I'm not personally against Tokio Hotel, I'm against their fan-base who (imho) ruined boys' talent and their image amonst music society.. And I don't want the same destiny for any j-rock band..
You can say that I sound like elitist, and you'll be right xD But yes, this sutiation upsets me greatly. As I believe Gazetto is worth of respect first and foremost because they are highly professional musicians.. and not because they have pretty faces..
So. Do you have any similar tendencies in your countries?

Well, i can't really compare as well as a lot of people, seeing as I've only known about them for a few months myself... And I don't know about England secifically, cos I havn't actually met another person that likes jrock irl yet, other than the couple that I've introduced to it.. but I have noticed online that the fanbases for Gazette, as well as many other jrock bands, is becoming increasingly full of the type of people your describing; you can see this just looking at the comments on PVs, the older comments and comments on older songs tend to be far more focused on the music or semi-serious discussions about the band/the song/the meaning behind it etc. and more recent comments being about their look and how cute they all are.
I personally don't actually have a problem with people making comments like that, we all appreciate that their hot, but I agree it can get irritating when thats all there is, it'd be nice to know they were appreciating them for the music and were capable of comments with a little more depth from time to time too...
That being said, this is probably an unfair judgement anyway, quick comments on pvs and photos will tend to remain superficial, and youtube is hardly the place for in-depth discussions. Most forums (the ones I go to anyway..) do still have real converstations coming up from time to time, and the people involved do seem to know what their talking about, theres just more people to fill the time between new releases with slighty less meaningful posts, so I guess you just notice it more..
Like you said, these kind of fans have always existed, the numbers of them are just increasing, I guess thats just what happens when a band gets better known, and is going to be especially noticable with jrock bands as the whole genre is getting more popular overseas and will probably soon become something thats 'cool' to be in to, and we'll just have to make do with it..
On the upside, it does mean that Gazette are getting bigger, and as I don't see them ever selling out or changing just for the possibility of appealing to the newer fanbase, that can only be a good thing for them. Grin and bear it, they'll settle down soon enough and come to appreciate them for their music, too.

Oh yes, we have the same problems. Here, at least in my town, people are stuck up. They see Gazette as a gay band/punk fashioned/glam ****. I hate this. They don't understand anything at all, their music, lyrics, they don't feel it.
On the other hand, in bigger towns, the number of Gazetto fangirls is increasing. I don't like it either,I admit it. Why? Because yes, they are 13-14 years old girls obsessed by their <u>looks</u>, clothes, hairs, make-up. Most of gazette fans here are emo. If I can call them fans. darn. They are "obsessed" with Japan and "kawaii "things, and yes, every JRock fan loves AnCafe. No exception. So now you can imagine what's going on.

Romania sucks when it comes to new wave of music, people are traditionalists. The fever - this is how I call it - will pass as long as there's no passion for Gazette's music. But meanwhile, the band is known as a "drug" for emo/wannabe/trendy little girls.
This is really sad.
I just quit sharing music with teenagers from my town, this is all I can do. And love/support their music and the band, no matter what.

They say they enjoy Filth in the Beauty , Guren , Reila , Cassis .. and ... and when i send for them "indie" songs of Gazette ( ex : the tracks in Disoder album maybe ) , they don't say anything and ByeBye me on the point ... i wanna cry . They talk with me alot , really make me think they r really wanna hear more , i share with them all i know from the profile , interview to many little things of Gazemem , tell them how i feel and how i happy to know them : a Gaze-fan . GazettE did promo very well , many huge posters of them available in sub-way , Jingu Bashi ect ect .. many place . So what ? I'm not too selfish to say that 13-14 fan is not allowed to hear the GazettE cos they are JUST original FAN-GIRL and FAN BOY .... i even don't know everything about the GazettE ( that's rite ) , anyway ... i think we should give them ( 13-14 nya-nya Fangirls ) a chance :) . I believe someone of them really wanna learn about Gaze .

I know that many forums (especially the old ones ^^) still have serious topics for discussion. And I agree that there are a lot of sane Gazette's fans, including those who joined the fanbase not so long ago (if I look at it globally..). But. The problem of my country is that Gazetto has already become "something thats 'cool' to be in to". D: And the number of "too-young-fangirls" I described previously is not simply increasing.. it's increasing like if there's no tomorrow. We already have such situations when people who are not really into jrock however know the band name - GazettE and make face when they hear it.. like if.. I don't know.. gazemen were some poch loosers from high school who can't even play guitars and not highly pro-s who gather stadiums in Japan every year.. D8 I don't care what people think about me personally ("what? Gazette? ah.. I see.. she is one of this stupid fangirls : / ") I care about their preconceived ideas about the band and the fact that its appearance is caused by these young newbies.. But well, at the same time I understand that this tendency can't be stopped *sighs* Life is cruel *sighs again* )))

xD Btw, about emo.. in my country not many of them listen to jrock, but I understand what are you talking about. I saw a lot of emo teens (80% of all the audience?) when I came to Europe to see Girugamesh.. But I can't say that it upset me none the less.. (In distinction from lollies in white who were standing in the 1st line and crying for Satoshi.. Ah, I sound like some acrimonious old lady xDDDD But I really really can't understand the girls in cute dresses who goes in such outfit to [practically] heavy-metal concert and just for the reason of seeing the "kawaii face" of the vocalist.. We were standning together in a queue before the gig so I know this thing for sure >_>) Gomen for being off-topic <(_ _)>

Well I think that anyone at any age can listen to J-rock, but for concerts, I think people under 14 shouldn't go because lots of concert are 'wild' if you understand what i mean, especially the stand-up types of concerts *lots of pushing and shoving* -(-.--)...

Yeah, it does suck when people have bad impression of something before they try it themselves, but to be honest even if its something almost totally unheard of we form impressions of EVERYTHING before we try it ourselves, its human nature. As long as people keep an open-mind and are willing to change their opinions if need be when they do hear it for themselves its not really a problem, and the people who aren't willing to do so don't deserve Gazette =P
Also, I'm aware that your point is more about the fact that the fangirls are young gives off a worse impression to others about the band, but I don't think that you can really be 'too young' to like them or be a real fan, by 13/14 a lot of people are mature enough to properly appreciate the music..
And on the 'emo' thing, they might be trying to be VK not emo, lol. There are a LOT of similarities in the styles, and honestly I've seen loads of people who have adopted a visual style (except, thankfully, majorly toned down, cos full costume everyday would be quite insane..) and do just look emo, or get classed as emo because no one else knows about VK too class them as that..
I don't even really try to look visual or look anything really.. I just wear weird-ish stuff cos I like it, and I get called emo on a regular basis....
 
@~kayen~: It's great to see you back, I don't know if you were still around when I joined last year, but I remember you for your screencaps xD so, welcome back.

I would like to throw in my two cents about this issue.

First of all, I believe that music is freedom and free for anyone to enjoy, so anybody of any age can listen to the GazettE and nobody should have a problem with it; however, if their attitude towards the band and the members is impertinent, then one can scrutinize.

Speaking globally, yes, I did notice a very significant change and shift in the GazettE's fanbase once they had completed their European tour. I have noticed a massive influx of younger, more immature and less informed girls taking to the band and flooding forums, deviantART, hell even Livejournal! It's terrifying how fast the fanbase grew, but it is obviously a good thing for the band....yet it still comes at a price.

One great example of this would be a fangirl that stated Ruki looked like 'an adorable puppy' (with an excess of exclamation marks, capital letters and emoticons) when somebody posted a picture of him on livejournal. To be honest, this kind of comment about a 26 year old man is very inappropriate and quite unprovoked, yet many feel the need to express such ludicrous ideas. I admit that is does get on my nerves when I hear things like that. It's just as bad when people jump right down the throats of those that state these things and act as childishly to insult and belittle the fangirl.

Yes, it's fair to say that these 'fangirls' have always been around, but never of this quantity. It is a great shame that these new fans are in most cases, only after the eyecandy that the band members produce. It's also a shame that these 'fans' have little or not interest in the music that they produced when they were still under the name 'ガゼット' because in my opinion, the music made back then was beyond phenomenal; the roots of their style and some of their greatest work to date. Of course the music made after the name change is also equally spectacular, but it is missing the bouncy, crazy style of their older music.

To go completely off topic... In the old days of this particular forum and I bet others alike, the posts had a very different attitude. Even when the GazettE had not released anything recently, there was always some sort of interesting thing to talk about; sometimes it was an old picture someone had found, sometimes it was and interview, sometimes it was old videos, all manner of things. The topic jumped around from present to past in the GazettE's timeline, now all that seems to be talked about it recent releases so the topics run dry very quickly and all that's left is meaningless posts. I doubt it will ever return to its old atmosphere, but that's understandable with the fanbase shift. I still miss it though...

As for England's retrospective on the band… at the concert there was a massive population of fangirls that quite clearly knew very little about the band. There were various people there that lived around the area, saw that there was this 'new foreign band' having a concert here and decided to buy tickets despite not knowing the GazettE AT ALL. The fans there were extremely rude to other fans, very inconsiderate and just completely set on being at the front not matter who got in their way. They wouldn't stop screaming when Ruki was trying to talk to us OR when he was singing the start of Taion without a microphone.

They deserved far more respect than what these people offer (from ALL fans, not just the ones in England). I may sound like an elitist, but this is just generally how I feel about the band. They do deserve respect for what they do, they are grown men, but these fangirls do not give them even that.

Now I'm going to stop, I could bring up a number of other things, but I'm too tired to rant any more tonight.

This has always been like that. They are immature and I already sais that - they don't feel the deep meaning/message of the music. I'm not talking like I'm an old Gazette fan, I've been listening to them for almost 2 years, which is not much, but I do respect the other fans. The boys are handsome, that's for sure, but tell me: is a 14 years old girl able to see more in a male? Of course not (excuse me the exceptions). The fans will grow up, I'm sure. But the others managed to do this together with the band and their sound. Unfortunately, I can't see a more mature style of Gazette, so it will be a bit hard for the newbie fans. About their older style - I miss it too. Personally, I started listening to 2004 Gazette first and now I enjoy more their first singles. But this is me.

They really deserve and want respect. Aoi admitted that the greatest compliment he could ever get is concerning his music and playing. We should all support their music. If fans only worship the members, they are superficial. I'm sure that that way, they won't go too far with this "passion".

You can despise me for saying that, but this is what I think: no one will become a real fan while being obsessed with some pictures and PVs. Gazette is not for every wannabee-no-attitude girl. Their music is something, has a strong message and if someone, as a so-called fan doesn't perceive it, she/he should stop claiming that he's their fan.

if any of you see the recent scans of Hitsugi in Neo Genesis, you will see the similarity.

I read the same translation. The song is about a mother-son relationship. You can figure it out by listening the gooby sounds from the beggining 😊
 
Hello people. If you allow I also want to share some thoughts about the growing J-Rock fanbase. You know...In Germany it is nearly the same situation as in Russia or Finnland.

Some young-teen-magazines over here think that it is especially cool and trendy to
write about the "COMING JAPANESE" as if they were a disease or something and decribing them as "crazy " and "scary".A lot of young people who read these valueless magazines come to the conclusion that these Japanese -Bands are something different (which they are) and so somethign like a must-have for them.So they think ,that they are individual and special when they listen to J-Rock and that they are part of the fanbase which is really like a family.

Okay ,some peple maybe just want to make friends and try out something new.
But then again I don't like it when they compare them with other europea or american musicians. Because you know...Japanese musicians ...No Japanese Rock musicians do create music ,which is full of meaning and art.
It has a purpose and a gole . I think you will know what I mean ,when I say,that most of these young poeple and this new fanbase is not able and propably won't be able to feel this deep and sometimes heart-aching love for the J-Rock bands ,which we love.

To be onest I am against the commercialization of J-Rock,because the new fanbase won't show the musicians as much respect as they have to and they won't be able to love them as deep as we do.

But maybe I'm wrong and those young teens will turn out as a good support someday.
And maybe they'll stop ruining the concert-mood....Maybe

We all know Ruki's eccentric personality and sexual likings and I also like the fact that he can write about anything. This doesn't mean he's a sick minded person or something.
It's an actual theme.
