This is NOT a thread for saying, "Oh, yeah, I totally have Gaydar. I can spot a f*g comin' a mile away! Hahahah!" this is for the dating purpose of gaydar. How do you know if he/she's into their same team? If you have a system for spotting team players then you can post it if you wish, if you don't have Gaydar and need help ask here. So this is for all that fun stuff that goes into dating in the Gay Community.
Also, this is for talking about the Chart (you all should know what I mean by that) and all the havoc that can cause. Do you date someone who was with an ex? How many moves does it take to connect you to friends and all that really cool, complicated, and messy stuff.

Gaydar. I have really good Gaydar. I use both a system and then just what kind of vibes I get from the person ('cause their are always those who defy the system).

The Chart. My personal Chart is rather small but I can connect myself to a lot of my friends in like two moves. I also don't have the "nope, been with an ex, don't want none of that" thing, actually my girlfriend and I share an ex. I figure the community's two small to get into that cycle.

What about you guys?

Baiting yourself?

Just a quick note on the words Fag and Faggot. In the UK a fag is the slang word used for a cigarette. Hence when I was in Canada and the girl I was with asked where she could buy some fags my Canadian cousin fell about laughing and we had to expalin the difference. A Faggot is a name given to a spicy meatball with gravy that you can buy in shops. The most famous are Brains Faggots. Sometimes found in fish and chip shops ie: faggots and chips.

Am I the only person in the world who finds the word "gaydar" offensive?

The thread was obviously intended to call me out and bait me.

Yeah, I think it's pretty funny how the word's come to mean something so different in the USA. You can really confuse people with it over here, it's kinda amusing.

I'm sorry for using a term you find offensive. But it's a word commonly used in the Gay Community so I didn't really give much thought to it. I'm sorry if you were offended that was not my intent. 🙇‍♂️

I can only tell if a person is gay if I'm talking to them about specific things. I don't have a sense of "that guy's gay, look at his shirt!" or anything like that, and when I used to jump to conclusions, I was often wrong. I don't even think it really matters, since I don't have "CatholiSONAR" or "JewScan."

Maybe it's something that comes with being gay.

I used to use the word "fag" as a typical insult. The same thing with calling something "gay" when it really was just "lame" or stupid. I stopped doing that once I actually befriended gay people. Now I use it to annoy them :D

This is true, most people with Gaydar are gay. It's kinda like a survival thing, you have to be able to tell otherwise you could get in trouble by hitting on a straight homophobe. 😌

I wouldn't say I have gaydar, but I can generally tell if someone is leaning that way. It all depends on how much I have talked to someone, I can't just go out on the street and know who's homosexual or not.

I can't tell if someone is gay. I would have to be around them for a certain period of time before I would actually know.

An informative thread so far. I hope it stays that way. Some good points and some good questions have been asked. It took me just a while to catch the intent behind the word GDr (just in case) and I still have no idea what a CHART is, it would be nice to learn something about that.

I have never really considered the topic, but bringing it up, I would say I try not to judge a book by its cover, I've got to read some of it firstly, before I can come to any decisions on what it might be like inside.

Im terible at telling if people are gay or not, i have no gaydar abilitys whatsoever so to speak- but i dont judge people on their sexuality and i am not single so it doesn't really matter to me either way.
One of my best friends though is gay and i was asking him how he tells if guys are gay or not, i remember once he mentioned that there once used to be a sort of secret language used in some gay communitys like having various words for certain things, but he said its rarely used now days anymore.
Most people that fit the typical gay steriotypes are not gay at all, after all, with decades upon decades of gay-hate in so many communitys across the world it would be a bit pointless if you stuck out like a sore thumb if you were gay guy in a room full of straight gay-hating guys.
Maybe its just because i have terible gaydar abilitys, but i dont really think there are any characteristics in the majority of gay men or women that single them out from straight men or women now days.

Some people are what we refer to as Unreadables.
But it's more of a vibe you get from a person not so much what they wear, talk like etc.

OH! The Chart: You write down your name and the names of all the girls/guys you've been with (although it's more of a lesbian thing). You connect your name to theirs with a line. Then you write down all the names of the people those people have been with and connect those names. And so on and so forth. It's really fun and cool because eventually you'll have lines connect to multiple people all over the Chart. It's kind of a bit of a lesbian pastime. It's really interesting to be able to see all the connections between human beings on a piece of paper in front of you. There's also a game that goes with it, seeing how many moves (connections between names) it takes to link you to your gay/bi friends. Some people also use it as a way to make sure they don't date someone whose been with an ex.

You know gaydar is BS. I work with a guy in which you would never know he was gay unless he told you.

Loves Speed, Cars, Likes attractive women, Action movies, Dresses normal to taste. Has a beard not metrosexual looking at all. Nothing about him says he is gay except for he has a boyfriend.

As for the chart......so i think I would rather wrap it up and dive in than to draw lines and find out how much of an active life he/she has been living.

I said vibes were more important then appearance or characteristics. Gaydar's not BS. And as I said, some people are Unreadables. However, gay guys are allowed to like whatever they like just as much as straights. Just like not all lesbians are "butch" same applies to gay guys. Gaydar isn't about just seeing who fits the "mold" 'cause many straights fit the "mold" of what people think of as "gay." Anyone can see who fits the stereotype, seeing the stereotype in someone isn't Gaydar.

It has nothing to do with seeing how sexually active someone is, that's not what it's about at all. The Chart is about the connections humans makes, the connections between all humans. You're just writing it down instead of keeping it in your head. And it's just fun to boot. :-)

You make it sounds like gay people are vampires, with special senses
Some people are so obvious, some people hide it very well.I too think it's a load of bull, but that's my opinion :)

Of course we are Vampires! Mwahahahah!!! :devilish:
But it's not a special power in all seriousness. It's more like gut instinct really.

And honestly guys, I made this section more for talking about the ideas and their actual use in dating in the Gay Community or getting help with them not trying to debunk or defend them.

Hmmm. I can usually tell if someone is straight or gay, but of course I'm not always right. I dunno how I can tell. :? I never really thought about it before. (Certainly it isn't anything to do with the way people look, talk, move or dress. And like I said, I'm not always right.)

As far as the chart goes, well, straight people could do that as well... I don't really see the point. Still, whatever.............. ☝

*shrugs* The Chart's just something we do, not all of us of course but some. It's just fun I guess and it's somewhat amazing to see all the connections, I don't know why but it is.

I suppose it makes you feel more............................. connected? :?

(Uhhh... my brain isn't working on full power! :D :D )

*shrugs* I really can't say exactly why I myself keep a Chart, I just do.

It will help you answer the questions at the STD clinic someday.

It's strange you should say that, Mike, because actually a similar diagram was used once in a 'relationships' lesson in school, to demonstrate to us how STDs can be transmitted even when you think you're being really careful. (It only takes one person in the 'chart' to have one, and when you think about the connections then you realise "hey... I could have caught that" 😲 )

I was surprised (well....maybe not really) that no one mentioned it before.

I can't believe Mike is quoting a Coolio song.

That's...pretty interesting.
