So I learnt something new today. Apparently 白 is in 白寿 (meaning "99" years) because if you take away 一 from 百 you get 白 .

I know 米寿 (米 can be created from 八十八), and くのいち = 女 (くノ一). Any others?

傘寿 = 80 years old, since if you take away the 人's from 傘, you're left with 八 and 十. There are many like these - sometimes I think the Japanese are too clever for their own good

This is an old kanji for sakura (桜)and years ago a friend of mine told me how to remember to write this kanji: 二階(にかい= 2 x 貝)の女が気(き=木)にかかる。

Similar example to undrentide-san's, (the traditional form of 恋)

糸しい(=愛しい)糸しいと言う心
